By a complex exploit and loopholes in the laws of the newly founded Weimarer Republik.

I don't remember the exact circumstances but here is the general idea.

Imagine Germany after WWI, peoples life sucked, lots of homesless people, unemployment rate high, soldiers heavily wounded, some of them even from chemical weapons, like mustard gas (Hitler also was wounded by this), Many soldiers being held as war prisoners, not enough food or water, Spanish flu, ...

And under these conditions politicians tried to found the first german Republik, after germany was only recently founded in 1872, as a Kaiserreich (Monarchy). Before that germany didn't exist, there were only a couple hundred seperated german states, each with its own ruling royalty, a little bit you can still see today in modern germans federal states.

But as germany was only united for about 50 years, each former independent state, had its own culture, history, and they didn't liked it each other very much.

Now the Weimarer Rebublik needed a parliament and within said parlimant there were 50 different parties most of them tiny. But as there were so many, even the biggest were lucky to get more than 10% of the votes, leading to gigantic aliances to form a majority. And even now with just 2 parties needed to get a majority, its pretty difficult to agree on a topic.

Now with these weird political chaos, and the overall bad state germany and the german citizen were in, Hitler migrated to Berlin from Austria, where he was no longer fit for military service after being victim of said gas attack.

Hitler became interested in the labour party in Berlin, but founded his own party, he quickly became quite popular, using the good old tactic of just blaming everything on the current government, without offering any real solutions.

He than used a loophole in the laws, excluding one party after another and pushing for reelections, until his party the NSDAP became one of the few remaining parties and getting over 50% of the votes without the need for a partner party.

After that the whole, more known, stuff happens, propaganda, antisemitism, Getthos, SS, SA, attack on Poland, the war, the holocaust, Alliance with Italy under Mousolini and Japan, ...

Exploiting a miserable situation by telling people what they wanted to hear; convincing them that Germany's problems weren't their fault; they were the fault of the evil Jewish overlords, the incompetent German leadership, and the "useless eaters" who wasted resources while contributing nothing to the country. From there, it was just a matter of explaining how those people- formerly your neighbors and friends, now "the source of all misery and failure"- had to be removed, and everything would get better again.

Despite what some people want you to believe, the Holocaust didn't happen overnight; there had been a rather prolonged campaign to get the Undesirables to leave. It was called "the final solution" for a reason; all earlier attempted solutions had failed.

He took over because no one believed that something like that could ever happen in their country. Kind of like what lazy people in the West believe today. 50% of Americans (they are called "Democrats") think that the world is some kind of wonderful utopia where if you are just nice to the evil people they will be nice to you. They are living in a fantasy world of rainbows and unicorn poop. This is EXACTLY how dictators always come to power.

He was able to divide the citizens and picked a group to demonize and blame everything on. He created a government run hit squad and took control of the media.  Those MAGA Republicans are the biggest threat to democracy, They must be crushed

The democratic process, ironically. He played on people's bitterness. He convinced enough people that the Germans had been screwed by the Jews after the events of WW1 and then convinced them that he had a way for them to overcome their circumstances.

If anyone ever tries to convince you that Democracy is some magical antidote to irrational thought, just remember that stupid people are more common than smart people, and that Democracy is a popularity contest.
