Should I be renting or buying?

My husband and I are planning on living somewhere for 2 years (renting) and then moving to a different state and then buying a house. However does it make sense to rent for that long? Our real estate agent is saying we should buy a house then move and buy another house instead of investing 40k in someone else’s for those 2 years. But what do y’all think?

My husband and I are comfortable but also don’t have a lot of money. Does it make sense to rent for those two years or should we look to buy?

I have no experience in these things so just looking for advice.

If rent is 40k for 2 years how insane are rent prices? Or is it simply this gigantic.

Also what do you need to invest to buy a house? Especially when you want to sell it right away.

I would rent unless i am sure i am going to live in the house for more than 30 years.

Buying a house comes with a lot of unexpected expenses. The second part would be your house may not sell as fast as you'd like and when you move and buy a house you could get stuck with two mortgages. Thirdly buying and selling a house is a pain in the ass.

Buying is impossible around here unless you are very rich. The average house price is over one million, so renting is the only real option.

If you can afford it , it is better to buy a house. You will accrue equity in the property. Also there is a good tax deduction you can have. By the time you are ready to move you might be moving with 100K or more to put on a new house.

Just buy one house they are outrageous right now don’t rent if you wanna rent buy a house with a sister in law appt and rent that to someone and it will pay the mortgage

Buying would allow you to get a return on you investment but has more risk.

Your agent doesn’t make money if you rent. As you don’t have much money rn, rent for a year then make a decision
