Would you go to a work do thats a 40 minute drive away from your home?

There's a work function at a managers house during the weekday.

We meet at work then go by taxi to her house.

The issue for me is the way home, as it's quite far and where she lives I hardly ever go out that way. Maybe once every two years. Just don't have the need too.

It's a 40 minute drive home, they're offering to pay for my taxi but it seems a waste of time.

We're meeting there at 12pm for a lunch function and it would probably only last 3-4 hours.

That's why I think it's a waste of time.

Some other people aren't going for this reason and just staying at work for the day. Which I think I might do. As it's easier to get home from work.

Would you go or miss the event?

If they're paying for the taxi, go for it!

Work functions outside of paid time such on an objective level, but they can be very useful.

One, free food. Two, you put in valuable face time with your boss. Three, you improve your working relationships, which makes your day to day work easier.

I'd go. I've gone before to events that were 30 minutes away and didn't get gas reimbursements or overtime. But I did get good food, free drinks, and made more friends at work which helped me secure a better project.

Sometimes making advancements at work means putting on a smile and socializing a bit.

I would. I used to travel an hour sometimes over an hour to work and another hour or more to get back home.

Your manager has done something really nice and likely also forking out the money for the food and everything and be are too selfish to attend just because it's 40 minutes from home. Big deal. There are fucking worse things in life. What about the truck drivers who spend hours on the roads driving delivering food to supermarkets for your arae to eat. Do you see them complaining having to drive 8 to 12 hours a day.

Suck it up. It's fucking 40 minutes, it won't fucking kill you or anyone else

When I was looking for a job my upper limit for a commute was one hour each way. I usually make it in 35-40 minutes. It is 15 miles.
