If you get your bachelor’s is the starting pay okay?

I always thought that by law if you have a bachelors for instance, you get paid more than someone who just has a diploma & experience. Someone said some places start you off with the others who don’t if you don’t have experience and stuff.

i’m majoring in nursing but i’ve just seen a lot of videos on the internet but i think i’ll be fine if i stick to working in my field i just hope the starting pay is good but that’s where research comes in

Generally, no. Particularly if it’s a job in which high school, AA/AS, and or BA/BS degrees are all hired equally. There is little incentive to pay more than is required.


This does depend however. For example, some government jobs have a very complex pay scale system. For example, some careers require a certificate for some specialized training but no degree. Examples are police officers, pilots, paramedics, firefighters, accountants, and so on. Their certificate of completion from a regulated and required training class has nothing to do with their college degrees, or lack thereof. Now, once hired some positions within the government may require a certain degree - such as police sergeant, fire captain, or a senior paramedic position - may only be attainable with a degree, usually a BA/BS. Obviously such promotions will pay more and are not something an ‘entry level’ employee may achieve. This means eventually the degree will make you more competitive and promotable.


As one who participates in hiring interviews for entry level positions in my own workplace I can tell you this. While a college degree sure helps, there are a LOT of people who think they can walk in, show off their degree, and get the handshake and welcome. I’ll always take a strong communicator, some life experience, and a well rounded person over just an education. If you have all that, heck. We’re hiring and offering $25K hiring bonuses to qualified candidates!

The thing not taught to people is that is matters what your degree is in.

There are a LOT of really useless degrees that don't actually translate into some type of career field people pay you for.

So many useless liberal arts degrees and communications degrees.

Some degrees help you but no... not all do. They give you debt, turn you into little victim activists who hate their country. Wine that they are oppressed.

Did you research what the job prospects and starting pay rates are for the degree you picked? Is that a field in demand? Are there actually any jobs that even exist in your degree field?

Yes so i’ll think i’ll be fine. I just keep hearing you don’t get paid well even in your field sometimes at some businesses but i’m majoring in nursing so i think i’ll be fine

Nursing, you should get paid well, but, assuming nursing is salaried (a fixed amount for the year) and not wages (paid by the hour), your de facto hourly rate might suck because nurses often work a lot of hours.

I work with a guy and both of his daughters are in nursing. He says they work but also so some travel nursing too, going to work in neighboring counties that are understaffed and he talks like they make a lot of money.
