I want to do photography, or sell my paintings, which would be more realistic?

Photography would be more realistic. But you have to be open to the types of photography that will bring in the business. Most photographers that make much money at it find they have to do wedding photography on the side as a sort of "bread and butter".

neither will be easy... both will take a lot of dedication and hard work, and plenty of effort as well... that is the reality

if this is your passion... then these things might not stop you and you will try it anyway

if this is something more like a hobby that you want to try out... then you will feel it more like a very difficult venture, probably

If you're really passionate about it and is good at it, you could do both. Photography is more easier though and many websites out there where you can portray your talent and even make some money if your work meets the criteria.

Try both and see what sells. Then look up my friend Nikola Olic, who got into architecture photography a few years ago and is now showing world-wide.

Unless you are a world class portrait painter, photography is the better bet. Weddings and special events will be your bread and butter.
