I know, this take is hot and fresh off the skillet. But I'm gonna be straight with you. where i live, most kids are homeschooled. we got abuse busts left and right. most of the time these kids have been physically and typically also sexually abused for years. and most of the time they're the homeschooled crowd. Am I saying all homeschoolers are abusive? no. am i saying abusers never send their kids to boarding/public/private, etc schools? no. im saying homeschooling opens up a window of abuse. not only that, but we've all seen the videos of people with "homeschooled" 9 year olds who can't even write, but when i say them not knowing that India was a real place is abuse, I'm called a bad person. Obviously this is one of the worse situations, and it's not just homeschool, but the whole troubled teen industry, and almost every religious group's schools, especially ones managed by said religious group, has a negative impact and omits pieces of info. Look at the FLDS. They got away with that for so very long, and no one batted an eye. And there are bad situations in public schools as well. But I can't think of a reason to homeschool your kids other than things that can be solved, or that will make me go "hm... that suspicious."
I think it should be a requirement that kids go to high-school. Elementary and middle school it's fine to homeschool kids but after that point they need some real world experience that the parents just cannot provide for them. I homeschooled my kids for prek, kinder and part of 1st since I didn't feel comfortable sending them to school yet cuz they were too little, had some delays so I didn't want them being ignored from the teacher.
I know a Mormon couple that say they home schooled his children... Who decides and establishes the curriculum? What skills, and training does a parent have to allow them to properly bring a student up to "par" with others in the same society.
Allegedly, 'public schools' suck, and I am certain that is true in many cities. A parent that monitors his child/children for what and how they are being taught in school, should have a grip on the education their children are getting, or not getting.
Home schooling - per se makes me think of the Pennsylvania Dutch, Amish societies, and I have been there and have no understanding of how children are prepared to live in a contemporary society, if they choose to leave the Amish cocoon.
I for one am grateful I was not Home Schooled.
it's the future, if you only knew the crap that goes on in public schools you were saved from.
the social part of it can be corrected by structured activities for those home schooled or engaging them in social meetings with others, religious, sports, etc.
if parents are not able, they need to get help or send you back to public.

If it were up to me, I would pay parents the same amount of money that the government schools get, for home schooling. After the pandemic ended and the Seattle schools opened back up, a lot of kids didn't go back. Seattle had to close schools and lay off teachers. I love it!
@Apple1996
This book is in the library at grade schools.

I'm not pro home schooling, I just hate the communist government schools. In my state a government school get $18,000 per student. I want parents to receive school vouchers for everyone of their kids.
I'm not qualified to teach, but if you were qualified, and you had room for five kids in your home, I would pay you $90,000 per year to teach them. Some states are doing this. Government schools are cesspools. In my junior high, teachers were having sex with students.
@LadyLa820
If you watched the video, two things stuck out in my mind.
1. "Senator Kennedy, of all people." What does that mean? "of all people."?
2. "John Kennedy and other 'Republicans' feel this book should be banned." What? Is she implying that Democrat parents are wanting their 5th grader to learn about anal sex in school?
Kennedy is by far my favorite Senator, but this news lady has the IQ of dryer lint. lol
You are on point. I'm from the state of Louisiana and the last time I actually researched the numbers which was 2014 (so its likely much higher now) between local, state, and federal funding, right around $14,500 is spent per year per child in public schools. That not even counting extra for food/cafeteria if your parents actually work for a living in which they make you pay out of your pocket for public school lunch. That cost is outright preposterous being that you can send your child to a very good private school in which he or she will receive a much better education, for much less than $14.5k/yr. In fact in my home town, you can send an elementary child, and 2 high schoolers to the private school for less than $14.5k/yr.
I also wanted to add that, yes, vouchers should absolutely be given to ANY parent that wants them if their child is in public school. Furthermore, I believe that ANY parent which who has a child that is not in public school, should receive a refund check for $14.5k per year per child (or whatever your state spends in local/state/fed costs per student per year) because thats the same amount that would be spent on them if they were in the nasty dirty rotten government run cockroach infested public schools.
All in all, so much more power needs to be taken from the state and local school boards and put back into the parents hands. Public school would be run much better if every district was run by parents whose children are in that district rather than corrupt school board politicians who dont do jack crap for a living.
@VeezyLife
Holy sheep shit. There are around 10 people on this site with a working brain. You are one of them. If you mention on this site that private schools are cheaper than public schools, the dumb-fucks will come at you with pitchforks. They can't handle the truth. It's too much for them to process.
As I mentioned on here, I'm not qualified to teach. I might be able to teach K-3, but that's it. But if YOU were qualified to teach, then parents would gladly hand over their vouchers to you. If you had a small handful of kids, you could make this your living. Government schools need to go the way of the phone booth.
@Apple1996 You can't blame that on the parents! You really expect a kid to sit in front of a video screen and be able to learn in the same way as if the teacher was in the room physically with them?
@Jamie05rhs for my kids it was only 30 mintues a day on the computer then the rest of the class work and homework (like 4-5 hrs worth of work) was the parents job. Which included teaching them to read
I wouldn't put my kids in a public school so they can be taught Transgenderism and Homosexuality, and everything else the screwy people today want to teach our kids. "If you want to take over a country, get the children first and all will follow in time."
@exitseven The problem is How do you judge what's bad. My parents were born in 1950-1960 and raised by parents born in 1920. They had no business judging good and bad they lacked the child like perspective to do so
Then they had no business being parents. That is why kids are so badly behaved today, because no one ever taught them how to. They even have parents today who are killing their own children, besides by abortion. I am talking young children. I imagine just because they can't deal with being parents.
@Asker Schools are now so concerned about being politically correct and celebrating diversity that they are not teaching basic math and reading skills. Maybe your parents did a bad job with homeschooling you. but there are a lot of parents that do an excellent job. My daughter had two friends that were twin girls. they were homeschooled and both graduated from college.
Its illegal in my country and that is awful, parents should have a right to educate their children as they think is best. Schools have gone way of the path of basic skill education and have been trying to replace the parents, currently home schooling is the only option against that.
Funny that it should be illegal when it is actually more effective than public education these days with the way the education system is going.
Just because your parents dropped the ball doesn't mean it is the standard across the board.
I taught at a private school where rich kids attended. When the kids wanted to take the sat, they had a nice dining room table in a part of the school with a door that closed. They would put four kids in there with no proctor. I would walk by and hear the kids talking about test questions. Homeschool is the best way for poor kids to level the playing field to lazy ass rich kids.
The government gets way too involved in our lives and we are way too comfortable with them putting their nose in our business. It's about time we get more comfortable taking care of ourselves again.
No, homeschooling should not be made illegal. Blaming bad parents for bad homeschooling is like blaming a bad teacher for a whole school.
nope...
your parents failure does not represent the general population
You're extremely rude natahn
sure you're all a class act
The way you speak is designed to humiliate before communicating
let's not pretend we're not been on this topic before, okay... lol
You're a very anxious man. Nervously laughing
No. I believe homeschooling is sometimes even better than public education. Especially in the USA where your kid has a higher chance to get murdered by a classmate with a gun than atually learn something what should get taught at school instead of how kids should hide from a schoolshooter because some old politicians care more about their guns and their women-hate (abortion ban) than the lives of innocent people.
Homeschooled families can live where ever the f*$k they want to live. They can travel in a van full time. They can move to Europe. They can live in a cornfield in Bumf#@k Kansas. No need to struggle to buy an overpriced house so your kids can live in a good school area and make friends with other kids who are spoiled, pretentious asshats..
I don't doubt some home schooled children are poorly adapted, but then again plenty of children emerge from traditional public or private schools with major psychiatric problems, sometime to the point of suicidal behavior or violent criminal tendencies.
Is there anything empirical to support this claim? I'm not talking anecdotes, just something more rigorous.
No, but that does not mean that all aprents care enough to make it work. From my perspective most public education is now a dumpster fire.
It absolutely should be illegal. There's no reason to believe that uneducated parents with questionable intellectual functioning can provide a decent education to children in the same way that can be done by professional educators.
I think parents should receive an obligatory education if they want to homeschool their children. In another case it's random...
In Germany, the government, via Jugendamt and Jugendberufsagentur, offers alternative methods of learning for kids with different needs. Parents don't need to pay for it. Kids get additional psychological support, learn in small (12 kids in the whole project, 4 per class) groups. Can do stuff up to 10th grade together with a kind of exam on the end of 10th grade called MSA.
Then they can decide if they want to learn specific occupation (in Germany schools and projects in companies teaching specific occupation are very popular) or go further and pass final exam and probably study...
the educational system here is huge and can accommodate any kid with any problem...
So homeschooling is simply not needed
Plenty of kids are homeschooled and have had good results while at the same time, the public school system has been failing miserably since Covid and maybe before.
@msc545 I teach at the college level and I can personally attest to the fact that half my students cannot write at a 5th grade level. They are all inner city kids that went to the Democrat run public school system. These kids are not stupid. They can understand complex computer problems. They are the product of a failing school system that is run by democrats and their donor the teachers union
Probably that would be good because kids usually don't learn to deal with their peers properly because of it.
unfortunately it is illegal where i live. and i think it's horrible. because it takes parents the opportunity to give their child a higher quality education than the school system can provide.
Honestly kid should still have recess together but schools have became liberal so I don't know what to say anymore
Just know liberality is a genetic trait and you can't brainwash someone who was born to be conservative to be a liberal
If public education reached a higher standard I'd probably say yes. It would also help if schools could guarantee that kids won't be murdered on the premises. I'm looking at you USA.
Nope
If I was having kids I'd go somewhere that schooling i. e. liberal indoctrination wasn't mandated by the state
home school is ok but we need to mix with others to learn skills
Interesting most women are against the right to choose your child’s education. Thought women were for choice.
