What are your thoughts of game devs?

I'm thinking of becoming one even though I have no experience with programming. I haven't even started yet but there is this certain nostalgic game art style I have in mind I always wanted to recreate since it's quite unique and I want it to make a comeback. After I'll have my old desktop fixed, I'll try to download Blender and Unity/Unreal and make some 3D models and play around with it. If I was capable of learning some software I was really interested at, So I don't see why not when it comes to learning those.

It depends on what you want to do specifically, since 3D modelers often earn money via commissions and not being in an an actual studio. The same goes for animators, VFX/SFX artists, and so forth. Programmers who make games often use it as a hobby while working something like cyber security as their main job for income.

If you want to try to make a game, then it will be a very punishing career and based on luck. It will take a lot of years of failing and learning from your mistakes, which can make you quit. There are a lot of positives to being a game dev, but I am focusing on the negatives, so you get an idea of it.

Also, you should treat this as a hobby due to how inconsistent the pay can be. That still applies for developers who have worked in major studios. It is very similar to the film industry.

Another thing I am anticipating would be AIs taking over and the competitiveness. That's also another of its cons. And yes I may not have this as a main because I career but if I somehow see the process starting to shape, I might take it seriously. I already make music for games and I never actually thought I could compose original music. Although I am not successful at it (just yet), I enjoyed what I did.

I have nothing to lose. I have no family and I'm single. Although I'm pretty much aware AI will take over, I would instead take advantage of AI and humanize everything.

u still have lot of work n practice to put in there if u r serious about gaining more skills

Of course I know that. I didn't become a musician without any practice. But I would say I learned composing in less than a week and the DAW i use along with mixing and mastering in a year even though I still have a lot to learn. That's what I start to believe I can learn anything if I'm just really interested in it.
