If a student cheats on an exam, would you scream their name in front of the whole class?

The old fashioned style was the teacher walking around the class constantly, loudly calling out the cheater in front of the class, collect their exam and rip it and give them a zero. Would you do that?

I would do something differently. I would secretly record it, play dumb and let everyone else finish their exam. The others do not need such disturbance. As soon as everyone leaves, pull him/her aside and let them know, along with the evidence. Then give them the F they deserved. I'll still listen to what they have to say. If they really apologize and request a redo, fine. However they would get a lower grade. If they got an A then it would be B (if it's B then it's a C) and I'll replace that grade for the previous F they got. Next I would schedule a different date for the exam and they would be sitting on the desk with absolutely (remove the cell phone and other things) nothing but the exam and pencil/pen.

What about you? What would do with a cheating student? Would you create a commotion in the class and shout out their name, that old fashioned way or something else?

Absolutely not! Students grades are confidential! If I ever had a teacher call out my grades in front of my classmates, or if the teacher called out any students grades to publicly shame them, I would say something immediately! I could never just sit there quietly as another persons rights were violated by some troglodytic throwback to the flared paisley pants, and really wide ties era! Hell no! Now I wouldn't want the teacher to get fired, (as if they could, in public schools) but some disciplinary action needs to be taken! Teachers are supposed to be above reproach. For a teacher to belittle a student, violate their rights, and deliberately humiliate them is reprehensible behavior, so yes I would absolutely tell… well everybody in authority! I’d tell the vice principal, my guidance counselor, my parents, and if I knew the student personally, i’d tell their parents as well! Not because I’m some anal expulsive snitch with a vendetta, but because I cannot stand it whenever I witness another person’s rights being violated, especially by an agent of the government. (Which is exactly what public school teacher’s are!)

I wouldn't. I have an unpopular opinion regarding that.
I believe that when people copy, even from their classmates, they actually learn something while writing the answer.
I have always allowed my classmates to copy from me and helped them out, I didn't give a shit that I studied while they didn't study that much.
Then again, I don't work in education, however that is something that I firmly believe in.
If the answers are not multiple choices and they have to actually write down the response, if they copy from their classmate or if they resort to other types of copying/cheating, I believe that they actually learn the answer by writing it down.

A buddy of mine who was 17 was sleeping with a female teacher in school who was about 25 and was kinda pretty, blonde, short and starting to put on some beef around the back. Anyway they were technically in a secret relationship and one day she found out that he was cheating on her with a girl who played flute in the band, a Mexican girl and had slept with a 30 year old married woman that worked as a cleaner. She lost her shit in class at him, she'd hacked his book and gone through his messages and it all came out. The school covered it up and she got a job at community college. He was on the basketball and football teams, he continued to see her and she had his baby but she eventually moved on.

If I wear a teacher in that situation, I would not call out the individual student. Instead, I'd announce to the class, "Remember students. Anyone caught cheating will get an F. Please keep your eyes on your own test."

If the student stops cheating, I'd let it ride. If they continue to cheat, I would mark their test F due to cheating without looking at their answers. If they want to talk to me about it, that's their call, not mine.

It's important to maintain order in class, especially during a test. Calling out a specific student for cheating doesn't do that.

I’m not a confrontational person so no, if I was in that position I’d probably just mark the zero after they turned it in. I had a few teachers in school that would call it out if they saw it either at the time or when giving out the papers later to bring attention to it. If you know for a fact they were cheating I don’t see an issue with that teaching style either because it stopped the behavior in that class going forward. But then again with me I never got caught copying homework since I’d change enough in it to not bring suspicion and I’d had probably died if I got busted so maybe not 😂

No I would absolutely not interrupt the rest of the class for that. I would also not report it. It's not my business. It's up to the teacher to make sure the exam is fair and properly administered.

We had one teacher similar to that, who would take everything personally, scream around and sulk. And he was already teaching for 20 years. I always thought he got into the wrong profession.

That's the weird thing, when he was "calm, cool, and collected" he was a really good teacher. I read an interview with him, after his retirement, in a local paper, stating that he really likes pupils. But he obviously has these weird buttons that turned him into a choleric. I don't know.

No that would cause a disruption to other students. Nothing humiliating or degrading should be done. They should be simply failed for the exam in question they cheated on.

I actually convinced a friend years ago to start a business writing term papers for other students.
She made a killing on it. Thousands of dollars.
We lost touch shortly thereafter but I know the next step was to start writing exams for money.

I would not, but I would take the test paper in front of the class, tear it up, and inform the class that cheaters get worse than a zero. My point system would be F=0, D=1, C=2, B=3, A=4, A+=5, Cheat = -10
