I worked at a company for around six months before I got so sick of my manager bullying me so I left the company. During my time there my manager made my life a living hell. Nothing I did was ever right or good enough, and she would jump at any opportunity to tell me that I was wrong or that I couldn’t do the work, even though I am qualified to Masters level and it was a low grade admin role.
There were numerous times whilst I worked there that my manager would make it known that she wanted me gone from the company. She would make comments such as “during the short time that you are working here” and kept threatening to put me on a performance plan. In my three month probation meeting she threatened to have my employment terminated at six months, and so after that because I was worried about losing my job I reached out for support and contacted a member outside of the team. After she found out that I got in contact with him she made my work life even worse. She started micromanaging me and kept making reference to how I shouldn’t have reached out for support to someone outside the team.
In the work I did together with my manager she would keep using the work to make indirect comments and in a group meeting she would make up a fictional person and then tell me she got fired and look straight at me as she said this.
When I actually handed in my notice and she found out I got a new job elsewhere her behaviour towards me got even worse. She started arranging all these meetings with me just to train me on all these procedures and to have any opportunity to tell me what to do and to tell me that I was wrong and that she was above me. It got so intense that I had to use the rest of my notice period as annual leave to get away from her. She also made reference to how we were enemies
The day before I left she said “you are a lovely person but this team isn’t right for you”.
What was her problem with me and why was she so intent on kicking me out the company?

Wow, sounds like that manager was a total nightmare! Bullying employees is so uncool. A few things that come to mind:
- She probably felt threatened by you for some reason. Like if you were smart and ambitious, she might've seen you as a potential threat to advance past her.
- Or it could've been personal - sometimes managers just don't vibe with certain people and take it out on them unfairly. Maybe she didn't like your style or something superficial.
- Power trips too - some people abuse their authority over others to feel big. Constantly undermining you was her way of flexing control.
- Jealousy possibly of your education level. She may have felt insecure about her own position compared to your qualifications.
Whatever her problem, you definitely did the right thing by not putting up with that toxicity anymore. No job is worth mental abuse. I'm sure you'll crush it somewhere you're treated with respect!
That boss lady clearly had issues of her own. Don't waste any energy trying to understand - just be glad you're shot of her drama for good. You deserve so much better!
