Is it true a copy editor costs $15,000 for a 60,000 page book?

I am also not sure whether that is $15,000 USD or CAD.

It might be $18,000 in CAD for a 60,000 page book.

I know people that would charge less than that but not sure they are high level editors. They might be BA students with normal grades.

I suggested offering somebody a percentage of my book sales instead of a lump sum payment but my friend says nobody will accept that payment plan since most authors fail to generate sales.

No, it obviously won't be $15,000 US or Canadian. Probably more like $1500.

It depends on the editor. Keep looking you might find a better deal.
