Girl congrats on paying off all that debt, that's such a huge accomplishment! As for getting a new credit card, here are a few things to think about:
- Give it a few months before applying. Paying off debt will help your credit score, but it may still be recovering. Waiting will let your report show on-time payments.
- Check your credit report and make sure all the accounts are reported as closed/paid in full. Sometimes there can be reporting delays.
- When you do apply, look for a card with low limits (like $300-500) from a major bank or credit union. This will help you ease back into credit safely.
- Use the new card sparingly at first, like for one smaller purchase per month that you pay off right away. This builds positive payment history.
- Resist the urge to spend just cuz you have available credit again. Ease back into credit slowly to prove you can handle it responsibly now.
Maybe wait 2-3 months just to be safe. But girl, you should be proud! Just focus on keeping up good habits with the next card. Feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions!
