i was reading a website and the wording was not "sciency".

it said "proof of evolution from a common ancestor is all various species have fingers".

whoa that is explaining the occurrence not a proof.

various causes are possible not a proof.

a way to explain fingers is IF had a common ancestor, that would explain, but not proof. many causes.

some do hav 5 fingers some don't proving not a common ancestor.

also "isolated " the fingers of hand. but we have 2 legs each with five toes !
but whale don't proving not a common ancestor or else they would have 2 legs with 5 toes like the "father".

You are correct that we don't actually have evidence of speciation (divergence in species, as opposed to evolution, which is a change in genetic frequency over time generally assumed to lead to speciation). There are some problems with the evolutionary speciation theory; the intermediary forms of some of the famous Darwin's finches would have had beaks unsuitable for any kind of food.

However, whales do actually have legs with finger and toe bones; the front pair is buried in the flippers, and the back pair is a vestigial few bones invisible from the outside, but present in the skeleton as a pair of pelvic bones. It's pretty wild, check it out:

Correlation isn't causation. So, I'm on board with your skepticism, but I'm also not an expert. Perhaps a resident paleontologist will respond?
