It's entirely by state and city, and the prices vary a LOT. Just for example where I live, I have to pay triple the cost that I would if I lived just a few miles from here.

A community college is more for the community that other types of college. Their programs are geared toward the needs of the local community. They are partially funded locally through taxes. So if you live within a certain city or county, it can be considerably cheaper than if you live in the next city or county.

Currently the average tuition by state ranges from approximately $1500 per semester to $8500 per semester. If you break it down by city, it varies even more.

A lot of states and cities also offer free tuition to people with low incomes.

I did a quick google search of some different regions and got these results (tuition and fees, does not include room and board):

Northeast: $5,050/year residents, $10,100/year non-residents

Southeast: $4,077/year residents, $7,206/year non-residents

Midwest: $7,347/year residents, $13,238/year non-residents

Northwest: $4,166/year residents, $6,762/year non-residents

West: $1,004/year residents, $1,004/year non-residents

At my local community college in PA, the tuition is $316.50 per credit hour for in-state resident students, and $415.75 per credit hour for non-state resident students.

A full time student in the US is at least 12 credit hours per semester, with most students typically taking around 16. So, you're looking at $3,800-$5,000 per semester as a full time resident student in PA, before federal student loans. Non-resident students (people who come from out of state) are looking at paying $5,000-$6,700 for those same credits.

Impossible to answer because even in one college, tuition is different depending if live in the same state or nearer to the college or out of state.

Usualy people get the half degree called asociate there. After they earn that, they only need 2 more years at real college for the first degree.

It varies from location to location, but one example I can give you is in Palm Beach County Florida. The tuition fees per credit hour are:

In-State: $101.00

Out-of-State: $363.00

So say you take 30 credits per year to work toward a two year associate degree, you would spend $3,030 per year in tuition. Additionally there might be some small fees for parking or student id of like $5-10, there is cost of books, etc.

I am sure they are different state by state. They are an economical way to get an education. You can go the CC for two years and transfer to a 4 year college and save a ton of money.

20 years out i can I only say I wished I did more community college instead of state TX college. Then graduated my final year in state.
