Why would my previous employer do this? please read below. ?

I was laid off from my previous employer because they decided to close my office down and they offered me to take over another location , which I was ok with relocating, after a few months of having me bounce around to different t branches , they decided to let me go because their plans for my relocation fell through, so they ended up giving me a nice severance package and said we are sorry , I been having a hell of time finding a new job , I search and apply everyday , this has gone on since January of this year , Still landing nothing , I searched today and my previous employer is now hiring for my old location? Like WTF? The branch is closed down but now they are hiring? So I applied again. Have you ever experienced anything like this before? Like WTF?

Dude, that is so bogus of your old job! Closing down your spot and then hiring for it again right after letting you go makes no sense. I'd be pretty steamed in your position.

It kinda seems like they just didn't wanna keep you around for some reason and used "relocating" as an excuse to get rid of you. super shady move on their part. I wonder if one of your bosses had it out for you or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if they let go of whoever they hired to replace you too once they were done with them. Some companies will pull that rotating door thing just to avoid giving people good positions. Really messed up way to treat loyal employees!

I'd apply again just to maybe get some answers if you get the job. But I wouldn't get my hopes up working for a place that shifty. At least you got a nice package out of it I guess... Still super frustrating though.

My brother from another mother unfortunately this does happen especially nowadays where companies are looking to cut costs & in this case you were cut so your company can save money by bringing in someone with a lower salary. As for you being that they are hiring for your old location if you really want the job maybe you should go down to your old location & go talk to someone & inform them that you will take the position at a lower salary & see if they go for the deal.

Yea it is a lower salary which I am fine with considering the job market absolutely sucks at this time , I did love my last job and enjoyed it very much to the point I was sad to see it end , I planned on retiring from there , so I am going to call them on Monday and inquire about taking my ass back since I am still jobless lol

If you left on good terms I don’t see why they wouldn’t rehire you & hopefully they don’t want their severance package back in the process. If your company is big maybe your old position would be available in another state or city.

No, but i lost my job during Covid and was unemployed for a year and a half. My benefits ran out after a year but it took me another 6 months to find a new job. It was a good job and they offered me more money than what I was asking for because thy really wanted me.
Hang in there, you will find something. All it takes is one job to pan out.

Sounds like the business in trouble and they are advertising to convince a bank that they have expansion plans to borrow money to get themselves out of a financial hole,,,
