Is my employer in the wrong?

A couple of months my job was on the verge of closing down due to not being able to keep employees. But they end up fixing the problem. My employer told all of the employees they were going to everyone a $1000 dollar bonus if they stayed. Well they ended up adding the $1000 dollars to our pay check which of course tax’s were took out. Now all of the employees are upset, because they were expecting the full $1000 dollars. We brought it up to our employer. And they didn’t care they told us we should be grateful we still have a job. Is my employer in the wrong?

they shouldn’t have said you’re lucky to have a job; that’s rude af considering they’re putting you all through the wringer. they’re the ones lucky you stayed

but the bonus is an extra paycheck and is taxed. sorry, booboo

So you guys got what? 400$ in the end after all b. s taxes? Yup that's what companies do. But you should consider yourself lucky to get anything at all. Where I work they took the Christmas bonus out years ago. and it was like under 50$ . How else you think the rich get richer? My screwing over employees. What a world we live in, where evil rules the world.

any money you earn will be taxed, bonus or not. The government will even tax on anything they want. The company can't avoid not taxing you.

I see you are on the younger side; to those of us with more experience, it is known that bonuses are taxed. Unless they promised wads of cash, the government is going to tax bonuses.

Assuming this is in the US, there's no way the extra $1,000 wouldn't be taxed.

Regardless, if you're not happy with the job, look into another. The best time to look for a job is while you have one.

If in the USA, nope. Any payments made to employees are required by law to be reported and taxes withheld.
