Why do people ask me the dumbest question?

I work for the power company it says it on my uniform and my company truck yet the come up to me and say are you Gas or Electric? SMH

I think it is just a opener really and you shouldn't take offense. I mean, I presume they don't know your name and saying "hey mister" then going into their question might not sit well. So it's kind of like a form of etiquette.

It's like if someone works in Walmart and are in their uniform but someone will say "hey do you work here? Can you tell me where the... is".

If they leave after it, yes that is odd. If they then have a follow-up, no its just normative behaviour.
