Why is coding even a big deal?

For the last 10 years, every moron says "i learned coding", "learn coding" etc etc.

Like it is finding the immortality cure.

Man it is not even a big deal shit man. You just enter the data into the database, and then serve and get the data. Mostly crud operations, and bots and database apps. Nothing big. At least 90% of the coders do that. What's big deal about coding? it is just a digital data processing thing. And AI now does all the job.

Most “coding” jobs are not rocket science—they’re about plumbing digital information:

CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations.

Wrapping data in a UI.

Writing APIs that shuffle info between a frontend and a database.

Automating boring tasks with scripts or bots.

Wow, you really don't understand what a relational database or multi dimensional data warehouse is vs coding do you. Coding has nothing to do with data and everything to do with the logic that controls how the data is stored, retrieved, used in calculations, organized, and displayed.

Coding requires the ability to think logically and the ability to learn a language that can tell a system what decisions to make in what order to make a useful tool for end users of data.

A lot of people cannot handle the logic requirements. A lot of people suck at learning a new written language that has no relation to human to human communications.

Unfortunately, logic and language is something AI is pretty capable at. It's all just rules. An AI can be taught rules. So the fact that most people can't code just became less relevant.

That coding boom happened in the years before AI, man. It used to be that we needed people who understood how to set up that infrastructure. Someone needed to be able to write that code out. You couldn't just copy/paste everything. The bubble was bound to pop eventually

Ahh yeah, the "learn to code" bullshit... I think that was some idiot elitist journalist who was trying to talk down on manual laborers. Those comments didn't age well, as I recall.

People were pushing the importance of learning how to code since the late 90s and early 2000s. I remember hearing about that in elementary school.

i like coding for fun sometimes and at a previous job, i sometimes helped with the website bc of it. there's just a lot of ways it can be useful to know
