AI Tools to Help Workers?

My company told everyone this week that they are looking at AI to use as a tool for workers and not to replace them. What do you think their intentions are?

To help employees become more efficient

To lay employees off and use AI

They say true. In this day and age, if white collar workers see AI as a threat and refuse to adapt, they are doomed. Most jobs can be done way better and faster now.

I get why the older generation is resistant, though. It sucks to put in 25 years of hard work only to hear that your entire skillset is garbage because an AI can handle it instantly.

As someone who has owned businesses for 30 years, AI is perfect for growing a company without adding employees. It doesn't have to mean loss of employees but it is a good excuse to get rid of unwanted employees.

If ai helps you do your job 5 times as fast then why does the company need 5 people? Companies aren't buying expensive AI programmes to help you they're doing it to increase profit margins and in any company the biggest drain on profits is staff.

Speaking as someone who’s watched these transitions for 20+ years: it usually means *both*.

Common intentions:
- Short term: Use AI to boost productivity, reduce errors, support workers (drafting emails, summarizing docs, basic analysis).
- Medium term: Redesign roles so fewer people can do more; this often leads to not replacing people immediately, but not backfilling when people leave.
- Long term: Some roles will be automated; new ones will appear.

Your best move: learn the AI tools early, become the “go‑to” person, and position yourself as someone AI *augments*, not replaces.

It back fires. They lay you off but hire you back 4 months later after AI fucks it all up. I've already been through it once.
