What do you do for work and are you working today?

I'm a Claims Customer Service Advocate. I was a Librarian but I haven't been able to find another librarian job where I live since I quit the last one. Hopefully I'll find another one one day but for now claims it is.

So what do you do? And do you like it?

Yes I love my job i build things fix repair homes and commercial buildings and residential homes I get a lot of work through Realtors are real estate management companies or by Word of Mouth. Yes im working today just finished loading up some tool things I might need I went and got all the material yesterday so I'm all set I just have to wait for the people to get home from work and I will be off to work this is a new customer so I have to do it this way usually like with the real estate management companies real estate offices they tell me where to go I go and I leave when I finished but for a residential home most people are returned customers they tell me to come when I want because I really like earlier starts than this one that's the weather's decent so it's all good

Yep I do. Health insurance. And that's good you're in grad school for therapy! We need more therapists in the world with the current state of the world.

... Maybe I should talk to you. Figure out ways to navigate the health insurance system. It's kind of a nightmare sometimes.

Currently, I'm working in retirement insurance, which is fun. I did work adjacent to a health insurance company in my last job though, and that was interesting to see into the system a little more.

I'm kind of in the background with my job. I just handle pricing of claims and making sure they are processed correctly. I don't deal with the actual customers.

That's exactly what I am curious about, actually. How are the prices of the claims chosen? And if someone wants to get that changed, what can they do?

It varies greatly by the provider and hospital the customers have been in. I don't work with getting them changed. I just price the approved amount allowed for the customers mostly those that have been in mental hospitals.

Now that's interesting. So you get a list of the approved procedures and then you price it based on their plan?

I just get their claim info like a code and how long they stayed at the facility or hospital, price it on a software system and put it on a contract that is filed away. I do not get any procedure info. Well I do on another system when they are appealing their claims but my main job is to price the claims.

In the summer I work for my parents, helping out on the little farm, gardening, haying, canning, making wine, taking care of the critters, running the little farm stand, etc, etc, there's always something to be doing. It's certainly quiet for sure and a great place to manage mischief. I would have stayed as a librarian at my last job but it was at a mental hospital and it was hard dealing with the patients there.

Understandably so. I have always admired people who work in hospitals and prisons. Something about seeing people at their worst all the time seems very unappealing to me. I like to think of people at their best and focus on the good in the world.
