How good were you at geography during your school years?

Pretty good actually. Geography and history are closely intertwined, Both are pretty easy to absorb as neither one changes much over time. And both are very integral to the development of human civilization, economics, technology, wars, religions, and national identity. Fun stuff.

For a current example of geography affecting human affairs take a look at the role of the Straight of Hormuz's impact on a war in progress and the the global oil supply with it's resulting impact on the global economy. A small chunk of land jutting out into a busy waterway is having a huge impact on human affairs.

I was alright at it, but I never really cared for it. Sure it can be helpful to have a general understanding of the world regions so you're not completely ignorant of the world you live in, but generally when I'm planning to travel, I do research on where to go. Like "Which countries have the best beaches? Mountains? Foods? Lakes? Hiking? Kayaking? Snorkeling? View? Culture? Plants? Animals? Etc."

It's all stuff I can figure out when I'm going somewhere.

It wasn't very interesting to me so I didn't pay much attention to it.

In school I was strong at geography, but not naturally gifted.
What helped me was curiosity: I loved maps, flags, and understanding why cities were where they were—rivers, ports, trade routes.

I improved by:
- Turning memorization into stories (e. g., “Why do these countries share climate or culture?”)
- Using atlases and globes regularly
- Quizzing myself with blank maps

That foundation later helped a lot in business and career decisions, especially understanding markets and cultures.

Yes, I liked it. We did a group project, converting a 2 dimensional map into 3D using the lines on the maps with the height. I think it was in steps of 10 meters. We transfered the contours on white cardboard and glued the pieces together.

Since school I’ve gotten very good at because without the grades I found out I like it very much

I USED to know the capitols of all 50 states. Kids today don't even know what a state is or which one they live in!!

Well, there was never an official geography class, but I would say that I was very good and am even much better now. I study it often.

I was very good, Geography was one of my top three favorite school subjects, along with Biology and History.
