If my daughter struggles with gears and clutch, should I get her an automatic car?

I'd never driven a manual car until my dad bought me one and it took a few months to get the hang of it. I got another manual four years ago that I still drive. I still screw it up now and then, but it's rare. Unless she's not interested in driving one, which I've always found more fun to drive (except on hills but you getu sed to that too), there's no reason to jump the gun on her skills.

Give her a month or so. She should be fine.

• The market has voted and manual transmissions are dying out. No one buys them. For a reason. Very few cars and light trucks are still offered with a manual transmission.
• Modern torque converter based 10 speed automatics, dual clutch automatics, CVT's, and simpler EV transmissions outperform manual transmissions. In speed, in fuel economy, in ease of use in heavy traffic, and in maintenance required.

Manual transmissions are an anachronism, a dinosaur, a dodo bird.

Oh, your question wording was misleading. If you have the means to teach her in an automatic then i'd do it. But if a manual is what you got, it's what you got. Sorry i got on my soapbox there. I just can't understand why anyone would CHOOSE a manual in this day and age. Odds are she's going to get an automatic when she gets a car. And a manual is an unnecessary distraction to me. Why complicate it with a new driver if you don't have to.
