I went to a top school and I’m thinking many people did not have real social lives outside of their families, their churches, and their boyfriends / girlfriends. Your competing with hundreds of people equal to you in ambition and intelligence for the highest grade in the class and if you don’t grind and study, somebody else will take your place.

I’m 31 Turning 32 this year. I currently have a BA in Sociology since 2016 & I’ve worked at various workplaces. The main type of job I work at is education field. I did americorps (1 year) after graduation, then payroll admin for 3 months before going into education.

I was a teacher assistant (sub teacher) for a year for a charter school, then an elementary teacher (2nd, 4th, & 5th) for a year at a private school (came in like dec 2020 then was let go in dec 2021 & the school closed), then on call English tutor for Korean students at their school/homestay program place for 8 months while my 2nd job at the time was a front desk receptionist for a medical billing center. I’m now a daycare teacher since last year oct.

The point I’m making is I do love teaching kids & I love kids but honestly I feel kind of burnt out right now with everything. I wanted to study counseling after graduation but I also wanted to teach for a bit before I do. I still want to do counseling but now it’s like I have other interests. I always wanted to do nursing but at the time I didn’t want to be a stereotype in my family (most cousins are in healthcare & nothing wrong w/it…just wanted something different then). So now my passion for nursing has come back but I still want to do counseling. I want to help kids better one on one & let them know someone cares about them. I also want to have a art therapy program to go with my counseling. For nursing, I want to help people get better. I’m very interested in learning

I also want to join the military or join the peace corps and experience another place besides my hometown. I’ve always wanted to join the military (Air Force). Peace corps is new interest of mine but it fascinates me to go to a new country on my own, experience new culture & meet new people. However I’m also kind of scared cuz it’s a 2 year contract, I’m not sure if I can handle that.

So please help me decide.

My mom always told us that we didn’t have to go unless we wanted to. And she made it clear that she wasn’t paying. I wasn’t intending to but I worked hard in school, graduated at the top (the sal), and got a bunch of scholarships thrown at me. The school counselor was my biggest fan (still unsure why) but she was a nice lady and had secretly submitted applications for me to colleges. Thats still kinda sketch lmao. I found out on awards day when they started naming all the students who got scholarship offers. I rolled my eyes and decided to tune them out, but then had someone waving their hand in my face saying I was the recipient for the biggest academic award package (instead of the val).
Anyways, college was such a fckin waste since I wasn’t brave enough to choose what I really wanted. I got a 4 year degree but not much to show for it. I personally won’t pressure my kids into attending college, specifically a uni. But I would encourage them to pick a trade and attend a trade school. Or maybe they could to try out a 2 year junior college. I wouldn’t mind paying for those. But if they want to go to a uni, especially one thats like 20k+, then they’re going to have to bust their butt in HS like I did to get an academic (or athletic) scholarship. If they attend a school in whatever state we move to, then they have the option to live at home, but I for sure won’t be paying for a dorm. I refuse to be like my fam who feels their kid “owes” them for raising them. But get this, if the kid drops out of a school I paid for, then that will for sure be the one time they financially owe me. #FeelFreeToList

My co-worker did deserve his 1 week suspension as he got frustrated and broke a pizza screen. But he was relieved he wasn't fired and could return to work the next week.

However when the new schedule came out, he wasn't on it. Throughout that week he tried calling and texting our boss asking what's going on. He got no responses. She never told him to come in or anything.

After not getting any responses my co-worker physically went in. But had to go in the next day because our boss wasn't there. The next day he went in and our boss said he's fired. She could have fired him 3 weeks ago instead of suspending him so he knew to look for other employment.

He admits he deserved the suspension. But he didn't deserve having our boss make him believe he still had a job at the end of his suspension.

I'm not surprised by this, because our boss is known to use her position to punish all of us. Even if she thinks you did something wrong and you defend yourself. She'll cut people's hours that make innocent mistakes.

People quit there all the time because of how she controls us knowing we need a paycheck. She also calls us stupid, idiots, and retards behind our backs. We know this because we all have traded stories of her talking about each other.

I just think it's wrong making him believe he still had a job just to fire him. With all the open jobs available, he could have been starting a new job and not have to worry about having money to pay his bills. I really feel with her track record, she did it to punish him more than he was suppose to be.

Oh and she has her daughter and son-in-law working there, and times out orders with the bigger tips so they can take those deliveries and the big tips.

I use to think my other co-workers were being paranoid. But I see everything is true.

I watch YouTube videos of Harvard lectures and one thing that surprises me is that a lot of fat people appear in their videos, I believe Harvard will allow morbidly obese people in their school if they are exceptionally intelligent and successful. I’ve met rude guys with accents who have humanity degrees from Harvard in some of my classes at the University of Toronto, one was my TA.

My new job is business operations assistant
And so I sit next to my boss (head of business operations - HR)

And each section has 4 seats

So on my left it would be 1 exective director
And the other seat is the other executive director


So i sit with important people (hr and 2 directors)

Does this mean my job is important?

I started my new job a week ago
But lately my new boss keeps asking:
"How do u feel?"
"Is this job what u really wanna do?"
"Is there any questions u want to ask, let me know please"

Why does she keep asking me those questions the last few days?

Hi everyone. So I am three months into my new job, and I am a bit of a "floater" meaning that I float between two apartments (Accounting and Estimating)

I am not from an accounting background so of course I made a few mistakes which were quite annoying, but I am not from an accounting background, but I do work hard which people see and I take initiative.

I had a three-month review with my director and he said that he likes having me here and there I am doing well.

Well today, I saw an email which I wasn't supposed to see and my director asked for a meeting with an admin person and my accountant superior and in the email, it had a few dot points for discussion and the last bit of the email read the following:

"I would like to discuss (my name) and her helping out with accounts. Is it working? Is it not working? Is it something that (my colleague) can pick up because she is looking for more work? If it isn't working I will look for an alternative solution"

Last Thursday, he did mention that he is going to look at making me focus more on estimating rather than accounts in a few months.

I felt that the email sounded ominous. Am I paranoid?

So, I work at a childcare Center and every lunch hour I video chat my boyfriend with headphones on. People were complaining about it (sometimes I didn’t have headphones - which that is understandable -, but it is still a problem with my staff and they never came to me, they just went straight to the supervisor). Anyways, I tried going into different rooms, including in between the front doors (which I’ve done before and was never a problem then). Now my supervisor has told me that if I wanna talk to my boyfriend, I have to do it in the laundry room. Is this considered discrimination? I legit wanna know, I’m not tryna whine about my situation.

I've gone on a date with a guy who claims he is an engineer. He doesn't wear the ring.

If I compare to my uncle & some friends - all engineers - they wear the ring.
