This part is called "Niederdorf", it's the old town, where many Restaurants and Bars are. In the picture left is "Wüste Bar" my favorite :-)

In Niederdorf are many little plazas behind the old buildings where the Restaurants set up their Patios:

Then there is the infamous Langstrasse. This is one street in the red light district, where you find all kinds of bars, clubs, underground, prostitution, drugs and basically anything can happen from awesome summer events like the Caliente festival to anarchist riots (I couldn't find a better picture that could convey the particular character of it. You'll have to google it if you want to see more):

We have the Züri Fäscht, which happens every 3 years. Basically half of the city is closed off and it is a non stop party for 3 days and ends with huge Fireworks:

Yep, been a couple times. I lived in Medellín (Colombia) for a little over a year -- a little less than 20 years ago -- so I took cheap flights around South America when I had the chance.

My husband and I have also been to Montevideo and BsAs together.

The single thing that struck me the most about BsAs is how things are... actually open all the time, when they say they're going to be open.
You get me, right? LOL
I mean, I'm comparing this to Colombia, México, and (especially) the old country, Spain.
In BsAs if something says "abierto 0800-1700" then you could actually go there at 8:01am, or at 4:56pm, and it would ACTUALLY BE OPEN.

We are surrounded completely by the Sierra Nevada whenever there is a big fire in California smoke pours into the valley. When the fire was in Yosemite the sky turned orange and we had the worse air quality than Beijing
