How do you feel about straight male actors kissing each other?

Question

I recently booked a gig on a popular Netflix show, where I'll be playing one half of a gay couple at Prom, and there's a kissing scene, my good friend is playing the other guy, we are both straight, but we are also professional actors.

I've played a lot of straight characters, and have had scenes where I kissed actresses, and in my mind at least, there's a difference between a romantic kiss, and an on screen kiss.

I guess I don't really know what my question is, I just want to see what other people think about it.

I mean if the job pays well, and gives you some sort of security in an age which having job security is extremely difficult especially as an actor then you do what you have to do.

I mean honestly it’s not like you two are going to be having sex in real life, or even making out in real life. On top of it if you’re really insecure about it maybe you should have your girlfriend and your wife on set with you to give you a little bit of encouragement.

You know you fake kiss him, and then you real kiss her. It’s odd, but from what I understand about the acting community it’s actually quite common to have your spouse and or partner around for either emotional support or depending on the dynamics of the relationship coaching.

Besides as a professional you’re going to be put into plenty of situations in which may be awkward, and have to act your way through them. Putting your best foot forward sort of speak. Ultimately you’re the only person that can really decide on how you approach it, and your feelings about it.

I say don’t worry too much about it, and do what you have to. Besides at least it’s someone you know most people from what I understand don’t get that option to frequently. So take the saving graces you get.

Well I hope I’ve answered your questions to the best of my ability. Good luck, and hopefully it’s a decent show, but I guess we’ll find that out next year.

They're actors, so they're getting paid a lot to do it but not necessarily mean it.
Just like professional models,
They get paid a lot of money to walk up and down a runway, usually with almost nothing on, and at the end of the day the get their check, they go home, they put on their yoga pants and watch reality TV all night.
It's part of the job they get paid for. Nothing more.

I find it interesting because usually straight males are very uncomfortable with gay scenes. Also men are usually more homophobic than women.
So if you're okay with playing a gay man, I congratulate you. To me it means that you're very professional and confident about your sexual orientation.

What does it matter what anyone else thinks of it? You're the actor, it's your prerogative whether or not you act the role of a particular character.

Well, they're actors, no? And are supposed to, y'know, ACT. I have no more problem with two guys kissing than any other permutation. Some guys are gay, and in stories about them, sometimes they smooch. I see no reason not to depict it.
