I usually don't have much in common with people in terms of movies... I enjoy European independent movies, they're usually nicely written and have a good story. I also like suspense movies. Typically I'll ask what they want to watch instead of choosing something myself.

Serious answer: Depending on what kind of date it is and where you are in the relationship pick something you like that the other person hasn't seen before that you want them to see. Or if it's a sex night just pick something to play in the background.
Joke answer: Put a movie on that has her Hollywood heartthrob shirtless in it. That will get her motor running. 😂
Bro, this just reminded me of this great scene from an otherwise forgettable movie, “Loser.”

For me any scary movie will do. It will give you a reason to have your arms around her whenever she gets scared lol (but it only works if she actually does get scared)

In my experience, for the first date, either a chick flick to get her twirly or a horror to get her scared and/or aroused and in the mood. If you've had sex before and dating for a while, I'd recommend a movie that makes you cry so you can show your vunerable side.
Or, ask her what she wants to watch, get to know what she likes.Try picking her brain for what she enjoys watching and does not enjoy watching and try and figure out a movie from there. Do this but also keep in mine she realize you are still a guy so don’t go full tilt and pick a “chick flick” as that might make her view you in a less than favorable light. You might have a bit of wiggle room for movies she really want to see but have yet to regardless of their genre.
Don’t be like a recent date I had where first date he put on the human centipede and then tried to make out afterwards...
Start with “The Princess Bride”. It isn’t “too” mushy.
Jeremiah Johnson with Robert Redford. The Rocky movies once in a while I will watch a chick flick with her
When I'm ''interested in someone'', I'll definitely not watch a movie together,

but rather interact with her directly.I rather find out or figure out what kind of movies she likes.
as for "the mood" I rather that to be me, and not the movie...Depends on what she likes. I would probably pick some rom-com she's never heard of, like "Safety Not Guaranteed".
Just go with whatever is popular on netflixs
Crazy, stupid, love
