Anyone here see the movie Schindlers List? What did you think of this final scene?

**Major Schindlers List ending spoilers**, although if you study history you might know it.

after the terrible emotions you might feel watching this Holocaust Steven Spielberg movie they finally come to this scene. It just really gets to me. Liam Neeson really nails this.

He wanted to save more! But he saved many! Although this is a hard movie to watch this scene stuck out to me. Not many people give so much for no gain to them at all.

What can anyone say to that? When Ben Kingsley’ character reminds Schindler “when you save one person, you save the word” it really drives home the point which Schindler is so upset over “I could have saved one more (when he holds the gold pin). “With this, I could have saved just one more…” The point Kingsley made was, how many is enough? Would you be satisfied to save us all, but leave JUST ONE? The answer is obviously, NO! Oscar Schindler, wanted to get them all out, but everyone involved knew that would be impossible… thus, Schindler should celebrate the massive victory he achieved, not cry for those he could not save, (bur really, how could you?)! Oscar Schindler never truly overcame his inability to save more people, but kept it touch with many of those he did save. In fact, he survived on donations from the “Schindler Juden”, until his death in 1974. He is buried on Mount Zion, and is obviously the only member of the Nazi party to be buried there! A truly great man!

Yes I have read about his real life. He was such a character. And yes a very remarkable man. Someone i absolutely admire even. He saved so many and still he felt guilty. its just missing today. Thank you for your answer. appreciate it.

That's such a sad and life changing movie. Especially because it actually happened. There were such horrible people... still are.
Missions of power always seem to be BAT SHIT CRAZY. Natzis were deffinetly at the top of the crazy pile.
The worse one was "Sophie's Choice" that movie fucked me right up.

I think it's an excellent scene but something about Spielberg's style never quite moved me in the dramatic way I think it was intended. I had the same sort of disconnect with Saving Private Ryan's final scene with the tears and regrets and it just didn't quite work on me. I tend to find the films that really move me tend to be a bit more subdued (ex: the ending of Grave of the Fireflies).

That end scene when the boy buries his sister actually moved me to tears. But I think it had a stronger effect on me because he didn't cry. He just buried her with her toy and favorite candy can and showed it in a very matter-of-fact sort of way.

Also, the ending to Constant Gardener worked for me. Don't want to spoil but there's a sort of sentimental moment with Ralph Fiennes commenting on a memory. That kind of subdued delivery really works on me.

What can I say, it's just beautiful.
I liked that he kept his NSDAP Golden Badge up until the end, to show that while technically he was a Nazi Party member; while spiritually, culturally and morally he wasn't. He was a lamb who dressed up like a wolf to save the others.

Yes but that one was wholly fictional and not realistic. Reading the real stories of the people is more intense than could be shown in film.

I agree that the real stories are more intense. But I was moved by the length the father in the film went to protect his son.

I recently read an account of a man who was a boy in besieged Leningrad during WW2. People were starving, and his mother gave him her rations, and she died from starvation to keep him alive.

The stories from the era are incredible; so much depended on a combination of luck and resourcefulness to survive.

I would recommend you read the graphic novel Maus if you haven't already. It is based on the Holocaust experiences of the father of the author/cartoonist.

I saw it but I didn't remember what was the last scene. It's indeed a sad movie but it's also inspiring. It's hard to believe that those things actually happened.

I thought the final scene was when all of the people showed up to his grave and put a rock on it. That scene was even more moving as it showed how many lives he saved because of his actions.

I had to google it to get an idea of it.

I really have zero interest in both reading picture-less novels, and anything involving world war 2 (or world war 1, or really anything from that era) Lets just say halo is fun and call of duty is boring as a point of reference, well that and I'd rather watch jurassic park than read it).

I only really like reference books, art books, and comics when it comes to reading)
