The Carolina Butcher. Take a look at a picture of a Caiman. Now compare that to a picture of an alligator. Notice how it's the same design? Change the proportions slightly and adjust the size, and you've got basically the same animal, and the same is true of their whole family. It's one of the most successful designs in the history of the world; the Cretaceous even featured a 40-foot version that ate T-Rexes. But go back even further, to the late Triassic, and you'll find this one: half crocodile, half dinosaur, nine feet tall. Why tall and not long? Because it walked on its hind legs. No floating around in the water pretending to be a log for THIS crocodilian, no sir! It could chase you down. And while you might think that it was simply eaten by arriving dinosaurs, you'd be mistaken- it took the T-J mass extinction, that wiped out half of the life forms on Earth, to down these guys.
I won't say I am glad about it, but it's lucky that these bears are not longer around... would not want to see one invite itself to our BBQ.
