So recently I’ve been rewatching a ton of Lupin III stuff, which eventually led to me watching Castle Of Cagliostro, one of the few pieces of Lupin media I had previously watched (The others being Fuma Conspiracy And Bye Bye Liberty Crisis), And I remembered really enjoying it. So I looked forward to seeing it now that I had a wider perspective of Lupin as a character and... I was disappointed.
Don’t get me wrong, the movie by itself is great, starting a bunch of likable characters in a lighthearted yet entertaining adventure. But as a Lupin movie, it has nothing that I usually like about them. It’s moreso a Miyazaki movie with a Lupin code of paint. And in general, I’m just not a fan of how Miyazaki writes Lupin in any of his involvements with the franchise.
A lot of people credit defining Lupin’s character to him, but I honestly think that honor moreso belongs to Takahata Isao. His stories had the perfect blend of lightheartedness with Lupin’s signature style of humor, which is what most adaptations go with nowadays (Though Ohsumi Masaaki deserves special credit for defining the darker take on Lupin seen in stuff like The Woman Called Fujiko Mine). Miyazaki’s by contrast is the single most lighthearted Lupin you can get, with him being noticeably less perverted and more chivalrous (He’s still kinda perverted, but nowhere near as much as his “Jump off his clothes to have sex with a pretty lady” self usually is). Fujiko in particular loses a bunch of the ambiguity in her character and makes her a straight up good guy.
Surprised its a studio ghobkingilm i never heard of
I never saw it still seems popular in Japan. I've seen that main character on posters and Pachinko machines here and there.
* saw it but [...]
It's an excellent movie and so are the rest. No it's about a master thief, not a special agent. .

Of course. It is one of my earliest exposures to Japanese Animation. It is hard not to love Lupin. Just a great flick.
There is another one that is pretty good, "The Curse of Mamo"? I think. . .
Looks cool. I've always liked studio Ghibli stuff. I'll try to give it a watch at some point if I remember.
I’ve seen it and I personally really like it! It’s one of many Lupin the third movies. It’s a little funny, interesting and pretty simple but I liked it a lot
Sorry man I'm not a child. Kids watch cartoon who don't grow up and still live with their parents.
Most anime is not for kids
It's the best Miuzaki film. It blows all of his other work out of the water. It's my favorite Lupin story too. Beyond well done.
