Do you like contemporary art?

When I talk about contemporary art I don't just mean paintings, that also includes architecture, statues etc.

I guess my reaction to it is different for every piece, just the same as with classic art. Some things I like, some I find inspiring or talented, some I consider mere trash.
I have noticed though, some modern artists are more talented in marketing themselves, than in creating artistic products; for example nobody would have given the third-rate daubing of Oda Jaune much attention, had she not been married to Jörg Immendorff.

That's a difficult question really, as the proverb goes, "beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder". I would agree, that from a skill-based point of view nobody comes close to old masters like Raffael, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.
What I like in good modern art is their ability to think outside the box, vivid color range, mathematics/chemistry as art, wild 3D/2D, etc. It's less about painting skills and more about creative ideas.

I like abstract stuff. I dont know why it frustrates so many people. I think its because of how commodified art has become.

At least to me, abstract feels very intimate. Its not trying to be anything. Its not trying to impress anyone. Its not emulating anything we see in real life. Its just its own thing. I think there's some innate beauty in seemingly-formless shapes and patterns, Its almost like nature. I don't know.

Also even the process of making an abstract peice is pretty therapeutic. Its hard to explain why. I like to draw a lot of elaborate stuff, studying light and shadow, perspective, anatomy... It gets overwhelming at times. Sometimes just
taking a step back helps. Thats why i find abstract stuff cool.

Sometimes I do, I mean modern art and sculptures usually inspire engineering design, from that perspective I do like it.

However there is a lot of crap art out there too.

I like when art is inspiration for cool building or stadium designs, or for technology designers. But yes I agree that probably >90% of contemporary art is crap/rubbish.

Ah yeah, contemporary 'art' such as shitting on random patterns on a canvas or slam 'poetry' or modern statues that aren't worth the material they are made of, except when they are, for some dumb fuck reason. My bet is that the reason is money laundering. Anyhow, the last century+ has been the worst era of art in history.

Photography, yes.
Paintings and sculptures... not so much.
