They still exist but not as many compared to previous years

Oh gawd. Reading some of your responses, I already know it's gonna be tough to get you to understand this without attacking me. lmao.
"Black family sitcoms" is no longer a selling point. Somewhere along the line, people stopped watching shows just "because they got people dat look like me", and started watching shows with good content, regardless of the skin color of the actors.
Imma give you 2 shows, I'd like to hear what you think. The Goldbergs and Blackish. 2 of my all-time favorite shows. One gets attacked for being "racist because it's not diverse enough", while the other is almost 100% black people and that's okay somehow.
Now, the Goldbergs covers the 80's and what it was like for people growing up and living during those times, while Blackish tends to 100% focus on "the struggle" for black people, sometimes outright attacking white people. I could give you specific examples but there's no point, since I already know what you'll say.
Now, back on your topic specifically, have you checked out the new Wonder Years remake? While remakes in general kinda piss me off, because I'd rather see original ideas instead of "reboot with ethnic cast because we woke", the storyline and the acting has been pretty good so far. At least to me.
One you might not have seen, is called The Game. It's available on Netflix. If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend giving it a try and see if you're into it.
dont know about in the states but i think in the uk they realized that it was almost as racist to have all black shows as it was to have all white shows so now most sitcoms do just have characters from diverse backgrounds without making any issue of it to reflect the diverse society we live in... hopefully this will happen with all gay sitcom type stuff they are feeding us soon too. we dont celebrate diversity by pidgeon holeing minority groups... we need to normalize by intergration not marginalization
Black sitcoms aren’t racist.. black sitcoms where created after the racist stereotyping that happened in Hollywood for when black people were portrayed. Black sitcoms allowed black people to finally be represented as people as opposed to racist stereotypes. It’s also nice for black kids to be able to see people that look like them. In a lot of television now a days that’s “diverse” they rarely cast dark skin black women and representation is still lacking.
It's not making as much money as it use to back in the day. Good families? Stability? Love? Boring. Plus, after Bill Cosby was accused of assaulting women while drugged, it sort of left a lot of fans troubled and confused, because The Cosby Show was a big success and a favorite for many (including myself who grew up on watching it and dreamed to have a family that loving).
Sitcoms have been replaced with "reality" shows, where seeing people pop off is REAL and EXCITING; but it's just dumb people television.
They just weren't funny. When you're only selling point is being black the joke wears thin pretty quickly. The other problem is these shows try to be inspirational and put blacks in a good light, you feel your being preached to rather than the entertained.
@purplepoppy your wrong there. I grew up with them all and I remember my whole family loved watching the Cosby show as a kid. it was fucken funny. black shows like the Cosby show portrait a black family just like Family Ties portrait a white family... its not really rocket science. pretty sure the UK never aired any black shows back in the day anyway.
@LaFerrari yes no doubt.

The fresh Prince was amazing. I really enjoy black crime-dramas like snow fall and god father of Harlem. And a lot of people are taking black people being treated unfairly more seriously because of shows like For Life. So black people still making great shows, just not sitcoms anymore unfortunately. I also really loved That’s so Raven as a kid. That show was amazing. That’s so Raven and the proud family we’re my favorite thing to watch on the Disney channel.
We went through a golden age of "Black" comedy. Truthfully the whole genre has changed. There are very few sitcoms nowadays. Most have evolved into sagas. No more live studio audiences, laugh tracks, etc.
Have you ever seen the "Good Place"?
Why do you talk about black people as if they are something different? Do we have to make series for white people and black people? A series is a series and it's for everyone to watch, if a person is good in acting and suits a role well than the director should never look at the person's color...
It's always black or white, white or black, don't you think that this dilema should end?
That's what i meant, that they aren't racists, your making it sound racist as if why there aren't series where only black people are the actors!
It doesn't matter to me as long as the series is good to watch, why your focusing on the cast's race?
Where have you been when i was a little kid and watched some of the fresh prince series in the late 80's, won't argue with you anymore!
Than you should know black sitcoms aren’t racist. You weren’t even arguing to begin with, your points are mad stupid. Why is it such a wow moment when I a black girl would like to see people that look like me portrayed more in media? That’s not racist I just want more representation for my community
Not racist at all! Just saying MY COMMUNITY, what's the difference between my community and yours, aren't they they same? Now we can see who have mad stupid points!
Nope i'm not, i'm just letting you realize that these assumptions are only found in your head, why would you say MY community?
I was just telling you that we are all a one community, i don't look at you as a black girl, i look at you as a human being that's all, your bo less and no more than anyone else, i don't see people as inferior or superior...
I don't support the homosexuals at all but i still consider them human beings...
I'm an anti feminist but still consider them humans who have lost their way...
Have a nice day...
Because now they're making shit like "dear white people" and "blackish" and nobody wants to see this overly racialized bullshit. Things were great when we had all those black sitcoms you mentioned. The quality of them being black was secondary to their character, and wasn't a prominent aspect of the content of the shows. Nowadays, the shows are a constant "oh, by the way, I'm black, and that's very important" reminder.
Seems like any show with mainly black casts are quickly cancelled. For example.. Lovecraft country had 18 nominations, was the talk of last year, and the show was cancelled. I am still livid about it.
For the record, you are still a kid.
Then again, since I don't watch TV I have no idea if they went away and when. But even we had some back then in Europe, where black people are... kind of absent.
Didn't think much of it tho. Since Hungary has no history with any people of colour (except for the fucking Mongolians), most Hungarians just didn't give a damn and watched shows regardless of colour :D
Because they're on almost every commercial on tv. Usually it's a white guy with a woman of color. Being on commercials will get them noticed. Then they could become actors. It's a process. Give it some time.
Now that you mention it, I don't know. I don't watch tv or anything anymore anyway. It was fun when you had only a few channels but now I can watch anything on the internet. Too many options. Too fast. Too easy. Perhaps I'm the problem.
I would say it has to do with cable not being prominent like it was years ago. Streaming services is where everything is and the advertising for it will probably only be found on the internet or other streaming platforms during commercial breaks.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were considered racist these days to be honest... we did cancel aunt jemima afterall. Something about a version of black people envisioned by whites...
Eh, from what I can deduce is it was a decision based on people saying figures like uncle ben and aunt jemima were racist because they "represented the subservient post-slavery negro." This was during the George Floyd protests as far as I remember... There's plenty of articles online about why they did so, this one's pretty good.
fortune.com/.../
And these days, I'd imagine people would say these sitcoms are racist because they were written and produced by white people, so it's white people forcing their stereotypes and whatnot onto blacks.
Not sure how much this matters, but from my perspective growing up in a mostly white town, nobody gave a shit about race during 2000-2010s era. Around when Obama took office, things started to change and over time people became obsessed. You had the Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown incidents, kneeling for the anthem and BLM popped up. I'm still in the same town and as of now there's BLM signs around every couple of houses despite there being like... 1 black guy to a white wife.
But oh well... white sitcoms aren't so bad are they? Malcolm in the middle and The Office are pretty great, Parks and Rec is good too.
There just aren't that many good sitcoms in general any more I think. Not that I've seen anyways. That's so Raven and The Bernie Mac show were awesome.
Perfect example gays took over our shit. So in order to have a tv show you can't have one unless the black male or female is gay and interracial in a realtionship so they can kill 2 birds and one stone.
I think they still make them. But still nowhere near as good as the 70s-90s.
Not a clue, i used to love Martin and sister sister!
all sitcoms are leaving... TV is for commercials and ads now...
just try streaming platforms instead
The entertainment industry got hit pretty hard for not having a diverse cast, they still have this issue till today. So if we want all- black sitcoms to come back it really won't basically because of the public and let's face it with all the events that have taken place around black lives matter it would be impossible to bring back majority black cast or all black cast.
I don't but society does , tiktok users , streamers , youtubers you name it have been cancelled and shamed for silly reasons all in the name of race just recently a faceless streamer who plays minecraft was shamed because by millions if his so called fans just because his minecraft skin is white and black so you tell me with all this going on in society will the entertainment industry really ever bring back a all black cast
I’ve never seen any of these but i’m sure they’re saved in a safe place so new generations can see them if they hear of any of these from their parents or somehow saw on tv or Netflix.
That’s a good question, I’ve never thought about it but your right 🤔
i know it was a wonderful time the 90's where we had fantastic shows and ones we watched each week. i sure miss shows like that the last one it seemed that we had was like my wife and kids. which was as close as we got to that heyday back than.
There still are some, but they generally went the way of unbiased journalism... down the tubes.
I bet its because of racism like everything else these days
We have plenty still that are new and I watch them. My favorite is insecure
Black sitcoms are better. They still got em, Blackish is bringing the 90s back
Honestly eventually everything dies and as time changes so does entertainment
Some of those were great I have no idea what happened
Even on Black TV or black channels? I don't know if there are multiple and or the channels names
There all on hbo max! We just saw yesterday also all on netflix too
It's all about ratings. People stopped watching, would be my guess.
Want an honest answer?
White liberals decided to get rid of them.
You're not happy girl for your age, posts about men, marriage, racism, sexism. At your age you should be enjoying growing up, not putting yourself on here with all your anger and bias, I feel sorry for you because you are growing up to hate.
there's forced diversity now. Everything is mandated to have blacks and whites on every show even if it doesn't make fucking sense
Its totally forced. If your a big company and you don't have enough blacks and women you will be sued to extinction, not enough white men, no problem! We have an army of high paid diversity hires at my work that have no qualification and no responsibility
You can't have a commercial without a black person in it, but no hispanics or Asians is A-OK.
Every action hero has to be a 100 lb girl no and every doctor of thought leader in a move has to be a black man and no bad guys are to be played by blacks
People who took care of business their whole life and worked hard now have no say when a housing project is forced to be built in an area because it's not diverse and has no crime... gotta spread the drugs and crime around!!!
need i go on
Let's have some new all white shows too by the way, at least they won't look forced and nonsensical like shows where you have to have a few blacks that "act white" as blacks put it
Never seen any of them. Im sure they still exist
The short answer is politics.
Sitcoms in general aren't really a thing anymore.
ALL sitcoms are becoming rare.
All the actors are in jail now.
Black American culture is too watered down to have an all black sitcom
Said by someone who knows nothing about African American culture. They’ve influenced a lot of the music, clothing, hairstyles, food, and slang that’s known and love till this day so to say that it’s watered down is laughable at best and blatantly disrespectful to the ancestors that were forced to come to America as slaves but still created their own unique culture despite being forcibly taken and stripped of their own
Has been stolen but it’s still watered down
You already explained it. You don’t see all black tv shows anymore. You rarely even see full blooded black couples anymore
I remember growing up watching BET. It was rare to see non-blacks on that channel. It’s totally different now
You’re only 15 so you wouldn’t remember
That has little to do with black culture and more to do with what the media wants to represent itself but I agree. They rarely show black women, they just put biracial half black women and instead of allowing them to play mixed women they replace them with playing black women which makes no sense to me.
Hollywood has never been good with the whole representation thing
No one watches tv anymore
Cancelled I guess?
Shows are usually only on television as long as their ratings are good. Television is about selling advertisements as much as it's about entertainment. Shows need to grow and maintain their popularity in order to hold their slots.
All black shows are great, but they are most popular to black viewers. Naturally, they're gonna want to make shows that are more inclusive to all races so that all races are watching.
I'm sure most those shows are on specialty rerun channels somewhere now.
Some of them were popular, but ran their course.
Family Matters had a long run, but they don't last forever. Fresh Prince had a long run, but Will Smith probably started doing movies and out grew the show.
A bunch of the other ones were just on secondary networks like the WB or whatever.
They only get so popular, but there's a large portion of the population that didn't even know they existed.
These days everything is online and TV sitcoms aren't really as big as they were in the Cosby Show days. They still do have ones like the Wonder Years reboot, but now everybody's streaming different tv series and gaming and on Social media Tiktok and such.
There just isn't as much of a market for those sitcoms now I guess?
I know you think everything is probably racist, but in reality it's about money. If those shows were still making money they would still be available.
right?
