Because few things scare people as much as something that’s supposed to be as innocent as a child being the source of horror. I mean adults yeah, nobody is shocked to find out they could be evil or do horrible things, but when it’s a little kid - that’s not what you expect or how it (normally) is. That creates the creepy, chill going down the spine feeling.

Demons often take the form of children to gain people's trust. If you saw a 6ft guy crying alone in the woods would you approach him? But you would a small child. That's why whenever I see a child alone I throw holywater over them and scream for demon to leave their body.
A dead child spirits is scarier then an adults especially because u never wanna think about a child dying early we are more use to adults dying, but not kids.
It all started with the original evil kids book/movie "Village of the Damned" which is creepy as hell!

Because kids are supposed to be harmless and innocent. That's a way to reinforce the horror, to show that the most innocent people become such a threat.
That's actually, for me, the most scary thing. Taking mundane, normal things, something you're use to see everyday, and turn it into something weird and dangerous.I think the contrast between something we normally view as innocent and friendly with the freakiness of paranormal activity is just more unnerving than an adult doing the same thing. There also might be a feeling if "if an adult starts doing some freaky demon shit I'll whack them upside the head but my brain naturally is way more reluctant to do so to a child, even if demonic or whatever."
kids entering puberty have long been associated with a thinning of the veil and easier manipulation.
Also they are cheaper to hire. It's the irony.
The ones who are supposed to be sweet innocent and cute are the things bringing us terror or being terrorized if the ghost is harming them with possession. It’s a trigger for people. Kids are supposed to be protected, innocent. Flip that role and you have a scary movie that sells tickets.
For movies where children are the victims, it hits us in our primal urge to protect children.
For movies where children are the antagonists, it’s the dichotomy between the innocence of childhood vs. evil.Mainly because of the imagination, adults minds are lot more realsitc then a kids. Just look at the Slinderman case.
Little Kids are scary even when they aren’t possessed
Their parents/guardians give them too much free time when their parents go to bed and they resort to watching horror movies or whatever they see
Because demons usually enter the weakest person in the house mentally.
The same reason news always is too.
Distortion/corruption of innocence.Because kids can be quite creepy, sadistic little fuckers.
So that people would never forget to use protection
cause it's usually the possession movies, else it's adults with some psycho slasher killer
Because children aren't generally considered inherently scary.
Why women are tools of advertising, and children are tools of fear, because it suits children the most.
I think it just makes it darker and more messed up and some people love that
Because that might make it for the audience to see that u need to be careful
Because they’re the ones dumb enough to fall for supernatural BS…
Because they are the symbol of innocence and goid, of mercy and love and that amplifies the feeling you get.
