As if meeting someone with a similar sense of humor wasn't rare enough, the music taste is dang near the same. It was so easy back in elementary and HS to meet guys who were into all the same things and we’d dance around and have a good time. But the college years and after have been quite hard. Its very rare that i come across someone who likes all the genres like I do.I want someone who can do a little swing here and there to some 40s swing. Rock out in the 50s to some Elvis. Cruise down the beach in tune for the 60s with some Beatles and Beach Boys.
Get up and get down with the boogie and do the disco in the 70s. Or else sit around and be a hopeless romantic listening to a little motown. Maybe even relax at a cookout to some blues. Get footloose to some 80s pop rock!Slow dance to some 90s R&B and baby making music. Fist pump to some 90s electronic dance hits. Grab a mic and join in to sing and dance to some early 2000s girl group and boy band hits. Hit the dance floor and bust a move to all these mid 2000s songs.
Hit the back roads and mudride to some country hits. Chillax after to a little Indie. Wine to a little reggae and dancehall. Rap battle a bit or even mumble if ya wanna.
The point is, I like all these genres but so many people like so few and bash most. Its quite annoying. I admit, classical isn't for me, but its okay to chill to at an event or something. Like in the words of Muse, this is “M-M-M-Mad-Madness”. In the words of Whitney Houston, “I just wanna dance with somebody!!”

Beginning with the Beatles, then psychedelia, electric folk, progressive rock and hard rock, I was (am) a child of the mid-60s - mid-70s when it comes to music. I became a guitarist and vocalist and that's the kind of music I played. I relate to the Woodstock generation. I went to concerts, not dance clubs. I despised disco when it became popular.
When I met my wife in the mid-90s, I discovered that she had been a disco girl and loved going to dance clubs with her silly girlfriends. To her, rock music is just loud noise.
Even though we have completely different tastes in music, we get along great. When I picture her clubbing as a young lady, I think it's cute. And she pictures me as an energetic, bad boy rock star.
She loves to dance. I don't. But I humor her from time to time. LOL I love to see her having fun.
We've come to appreciate each other's tastes since we've been together. I've lightened up on disco and come to appreciate some of it. And I've educated her on some of my idols like Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, and many more.
We know a couple who have a karaoke machine and held several karaoke parties a year for many years before they bought the covid fear campaign. I found that I could sing a wide variety of songs well, even music from before my time. My wife isn't a great singer but she isn't terrible. She found lots of karaoke songs that she liked to sing. And the two of us did duets on some old songs like I've Got You Babe (Sonny and Cher), Daydream Believer (Davy Jones), Ferry Cross the Mersey (Jerry and the Pacemakers), Rhythm of the Rain (The Cascades), to name a few.
Well thats good that y'all learned to like it. Im quite stubborn and dont change easily and i can't expect them too so its best i come across someone already on the same page. And yes i love karaoke and need someone who’ll sing along to different genres with me
Yeah exactly. In my case for example, I listen to Eminem, Snoop Dogg, ice cube, Nas etc and people will ask me if they're still making music or tell me that their time passed and they're not cool anymore to listen to their music. I'm like just because you don't listen to them doesn't mean they don't make great music no more

Being eclectic means I'm always going to connect on some level because there isn't really a genre of music that I dislike. Music literally saved me so I would be doing myself a disservice by sticking to certain genres. Mr. Personality listens to all kinds of music.

I was taught as a really young boy how to professionally dance but as I got more ingrained into music the musician became the part of my musical identity that I enjoyed and cultivated first and foremost over the dancer. I do gotta say it really sounds like you don't meet a whole lot of people though. I mean, yeah I meet girls with tons of musical tastes and great senses of humour all the time. It's called life. Get out and interact with people, talk to other Human Beings, they're all around. People have layers, like an ogre.
I've met plenty in life. I was never stuck inside due to the pandemic like many others. And Im sick of mfs from having met so many. But meeting people dont mean shit if we’re not on the same page about our goals and aspirations 😑
I mean. I meet tons of people every week who share tons of my likes and interests and desires so it tells me that either you're a recluse who doesn't meet a lot of people or doesn't know how or you just intentionally socialize with the wrong crowd. Number two is valid, I did that for quite a long time before I realized that just because I've known someone for 20 years doesn't mean they deserve to be in my life if they're a piece of shit and just started fucking cutting out the most toxic influences. I have no friends from before I was in middle school and only one friend actually knew me before high school but I don't really care. You're likely gonna be alive a long time, constantly make new connections and friends and it's been to be alone and have no one who can really vouch for young you than it is to have someone around who's just an asshole that you don't even relate with or really enjoy having around let alone makes you feel like shit. Join groups with your interests to start meeting better people.

I know. And I'm remarking that you need to widen your search if you really encounter so few people who have that in common. Either that or you're extremely restrictive in your parameters.
And dating shouldn't be with the goal to find "The One". That's obviously the goal but the mindset should just be to meet people and make friends and one happens to be "The One", then great.
Personally I've met tons of women who have similar tastes to me in terms of music and films. And even the ones who don't we still get along over mutual interest in each other. Case in point: My crush and I hang out and bond over our love of movies, tv, and music. Does she enjoy horror movies? No. But she'll make the effort to watch some less violent or rough ones because she knows I enjoy them and I'll similarly make the effort to enjoy more comedies because I want to hang out with her. Often times I find myself really enjoying the stuff I make the effort to like because of her and end up discovering new things I wouldn't have otherwise. You're approaching this way too rigidly.
Part of the fun of finding someone to date and spend time and life with is learning how different they are and uncovering it slowly. Seeing what they love and like, learning what they've been through. This includes their favourite genres and everything, just because it's different from you doesn't automatically mean that suddenly they can't be a potential partner, that's obviously gonna leave you so fucking unhappy and lonely. It's how teenagers think, hence why so many teen boys lie or just start liking stuff girls like just to get with them. Learn about each other, understand and appreciate each other's differences, make time and effort to try and give and take from each other (this includes interests, likes, hobbies and personal preferences) and develop and grow from each other.
I've met many who like some of my genres but i need specific ones. I want someone who likes rap, country, and 70s r&b/disco. Its hard to find someone who likes those all together. The others above, i can compromise on. You might be looking for friendship but i am not. That shit was cute in HS and college but idc about “friends”. I'm looking for someone to spend a lifetime with as well, have been since I was a boy so you can see how successful I am at that. But I'm sorry, that begins with friendship. Relationships are hard enough to form and maintain without having some sort of basis for the person to start with and if you start out as friends and progress from there things can just become so much easier and you know you can count on and trust each other.
Really, making your partners fit into this little box you have in your mind of MUST like this genre and all these genres combined to be with me is really not doing you any favours. I HATE rap/hiphop and metal... but I'm never gonna say that I'd NEVER listen to it. If someone I ended up with liked it, odds are I'd at least make an effort and want to listen to stuff she likes with her as long as she does the same for me. If I already like her then her liking rap or metal wouldn't change that so I'd obviously try to like it too. You really need to try and look inward into yourself to figure out why you feel this way. Yeah, having standards is great, yours are just wildly rigid and have zero flexibility so how do you expect anyone to ever be able to work with you? Relationships are work. And you really need to learn to pursue "The One" with a mindset that isn't about "The One".

I mean, I'm pretty sure we all fall in love with someone who reminds us of ourselves that we can see ourselves in to some degree. Essentially "myself in an opposite sex body" is probably what ever heterosexual is looking for, I'd imagine. So your male counterpart is LITERALLY you except with a penis? He wouldn't be his own man with some of his own interests entirely separate from yours that give him his own identity that could be extremely fun to learn and discover? I know if I were a woman I'd be pretty wildly different from who I am as a man but it's the core characteristics that would likely still be there. Those "main core things" are the few things I won't compromise on and it's funny because I search for them subconsciously. Everything else, interests, experiences, all of it? It's just dust in the wind. People change and go through so many different things in life and learn or love so many different things it'd be difficult to restrict.
I can learn from others outside of my partner. I dont need him to be opposite of me to teach me shit. Sure he can be his own man but i want 90% of him to be just like me. I've dated some 60-80% and i wasn't happy. I know exactly what I want in a man and if he's not that then i dont want him and am happier off being single. And as for building friendships first, i stopped believing in that shit long ago. The longer we’re friends the more im turned off because we’d see/hear of eachothers experiences dating others. Thats awkward. I believe in “talking”. Thats where we build a friendship as we get to know eachother. Im not becoming official girlfriend/boyfriend with someone within less than 3 months of knowing then anyways. It shouldn't take longer than 3 months to become both. I wasted time on 3 exes who were year friends before we were boyfriend/girlfriend. Now we have nothing. Fck them. I rather not build a friendship because losing two in one hurts more than just losing a bad boyfriend.

🥺 I wish. I understand you but the only person that is the closest to my taste is my brother. We haven't meet since 1997 until 2005 and yet we have similar taste. The other day i dicovered the Mrs does not know who George Michael is. The people i work with has no interes for older music and the new music the litsen to us nothing i got no interess in 🤷♂️.

I can be flexible with my tastes, but my two favorites will always be the immediate go to.
I can do 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s music across all genres, but modern day pop, hip/hop, nah. I don't bring up music that much since most people don't like what I like, and that's fine.
My best friend from work would probably be the closest. We both are big fans of rock music. Playing air guitar along to certain songs playing on 93.3 on the radio at work sometimes 😅 He once got pretty hilariously aggressive and started kicking boxes and Gaylords while air guitaring 😂😂😂 for no good reason other than to be funny and get some laughs.
I don't have any specific genres I listen to, I like whatever sounds good to my ears so I could always enjoy other people’s taste in music to some extent unless it's some super cringy songs hahaha
but me and my best friend listen to pretty much exactly the same things and it's the most fun listening to music with her cause we have lots of fun being clowns and dancing
Met a lot of people to be honest , we're all EDM Heads (Future Bass and Melodic Bass to be specific) we vibe together to ILLENIUM , Seven Lions , Said The Sky , Dabin and Blanke. Met Some people who are into Riddim and Heavy Bass music by Artists like Virtual Riot , Modestep , Ray Volpe , Bandlez etc
It's easy for me because I like every genre of music except Country, which is lucky on two counts. One, Country isn't that big in the UK, and 2 my G/f hates it
Don't think badly of me it's just Country music makes me want to rip the hair out from my head. As County song go though? I have heard quite a bit worse.
