Do you enjoy country music?

People often say they like all kinds of music except for country. What exactly is it about country music which makes it so unbearable that literally any other music should be preferred?

Personally, I think country falls into the same category as all other enjoyable music. The category of if the song is good, the music is good. It's not like there are zero good country music songs, come on.

Is it a political thing? Or some kind of social taboo? What's the deal?

Yep! I grew up listening to country music. I definitely understand why some people dislike it, but of course it’s not for everyone. I think it can be pretty diverse, when you look at all the sub genres of country music.


I really like outlaw country - The classic country music. Artists like Hank Williams Jr, David Allan Coe, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck, and Jamey Johnson. Those are all artists that I grew up listening to.


I love the Country Rock sub genre. Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Byrds, The Allman Brothers Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Outlaws, Alabama, Poco, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, etc.


I grew up listening to all the old 60s-80s music, and I am thankful for that… I absolutely love that era of music when it comes to classic rock, classic country, hard rock, country rock, etc… I’m also a fan of The Beatles and The Beach Boys too, but yeah lol.


I can’t really stand pop country… Radio station country, ya know? I don’t mind more of the modern artists like Luke Combs or Brad Paisley, etc. They’re decent, but not really my style. I do like Alan Jackson though!

Oh, yes! Absolutely. After rock and pop, country is my favorite! It ranks 3rd in one of the best genres of music in my book.

I'm not sure why many people don't like country. Is it because of social pressure to fit in? To "be cool" or is it just not their favorite genre in music?

Some of my favorite songs are country. I especially love Taylor Swift's music back from when she first started her career.

Once, I was talking to my guy friend, and he said he pretends to "hate" country music in front of his other friends to fit in. Because apparently, him and his friends are more into rock and he was afraid that his friends might judge him for liking country. It sounds silly, but this happens in my school.

As you get older, you'll realise how silly pretty much all music eventually sounds, so there's no reason to be embarrassed.

I don’t necessarily agree with your statement that music sounds silly. It can convey some pretty intense and raw emotions. I like music more than I do other forms or art.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan, but I quite like it. It's certainly preferable to most jazz, hard rock or rap (anything without a melody is not music in my opinion, and usually falls into one of those genres).
When I was younger, I used to like a lot of "country-influenced" music, like Sheryl Crow and The Eagles. Apart from that I just knew the real old classics, and the odd song or two from more "pop-country" bands/singers, like Dixie Chicks, Allison Krauss, Faith Hill, etc that got played on mainstream radio,
These days, I have the radio tuned to the country music station most of the time (as soon as Ken Bruce finishes and Jeremy Vine comes on, that's my cue to switch stations). I don't really actively listen, and couldn't tell you half the singers' names, but I find it's just really nice chilled out background music for when I'm trying to do other things.

I'm not a huge fan of rascal Flatts but I appreciate that they're some of the most talented singers out there in my opinion.

You can play brad paisley's mud on the tyres album or the guitar album at any time and I will get into it.

There's a lot of good country music but it does get a little old for me and I feel like the genre needs more artists to shake up what a country song is supposed to sound like because they all feel the same.

There's a cultural stigma, attached to the stereotype of southern peoples as a bunch of drunken, inbred rednecks. I think that's what people don't want to be connected with.

I've long wondered how far back it goes; country music underwent a weird transformation at some point, from the Woodie Guthrie-style "anti-establishment music of the working class" to the more modern, GOP-friendly "drinking beer in a pickup truck with Aryan Jesus" stuff.

Country is one of my favorite genres - though I must admit it is mostly my go to when I'm feeling the blues.

I honestly haven't met anyone here in my local community that likes country, other than Cash - except from a couple of older local drunks. Won't stop me from enjoying it.

It depends on the area. If you're not in the US then it would sense since I hear it over here more than other countries I visit

Years ago when I was in high school, my family moved to southern California and I noticed that it's much harder to find someone that doesn't like country music in this city. My Asian neighbors always play country when they barbecue at the pool because they say nothing fits better

i hate it, well most of it, there's a few good country songs i like like uhhh... i forget the name.,... something to do with hearts and dolly parton,
