Who Do You Like Better, King Kong Or Godzilla?

I’ve always had a slight dislike for Godzilla and I don’t know why. Actually I think it’s cause it’s kind of OP.

Growing up, it was a Friday tradition to get pizza, rent an original Japanese Godzilla movie, and have a Monster Movie Night.

Godzilla is my favourite kaiju genre film, and I'm a huge fan of it and the themes usually present in Japanese produced Godzilla films.

Even the old goofy looking costumes - I love em.

Isn't Godzilla a villain who simply terrorizes people (at least, in the original stories) lol? What is there ti like?

No, he's a tragic figure. There's a lot of subtly and deep themes in traditional Godzilla films.

Western remakes cast him as a single sided monster, but he's really a tragic hero to both the Earth (as a planet) and humans (versus King Gidora and Mecha-Godzilla for example).

He's often seen as a sort of "great balancer" who is a consequence for mankind's arrogance. His origin is from nuclear radiation induced mutations, and he traditionally only targets sources of nuclear power.

A common theme in the original films is this idea that Godzilla is the Earth's response to the ignorance and destructiveness of humans.

So he's not as much the villain as the consequences of humanity's worst actions.

There's more depth there than normal kaiju films, so I really appreciate it. But also, the originals have really funny suits.

Waw, thanks for replying and enlightening me. I actually do recall in the movie I saw which came out recently, he was targeting sources of power... that is actually a good explanation. There is more to it and he didn't create himself.

I think that there is also tragedy to King Kong being taken as a spectacle by humans, yet still protecting a human woman, at least in the movie... there wasn't a tv series for King Kong that I know of... I tend to like romance lol

But now I know that Godzilla is not just reckless and bad.. I understand his origin , story and reason... i can appreciate the plot more. It also teaches humans a good lesson.

After the recent movies, I like them both, Godzilla maybe a slightly better.
When I was a kid, I disliked King Kong, he seemed like a stupid ape kidnapping a human.
Nowadays I understand it more.

I heard that the thought behind it as personification. So that is not heroism as American movie. They are not on your side but sometimes just benefit you. It is happening to benefit you. It still can be bad to you. it is like eastern philosophy.

Godzilla is more dangerous and he would be more competitive to stop if he had existed in real life and that is what I like him better (A True villain or hero monster).

I like King Kong for the rhymes, yo. King Kong lives in Hong Kong playing ping pong with his ding dong. Can't get much better than that.
