Yes, gender preferences are a big issue with advertising agencies and other marketing specialists.

Not only in sports as you suggest but in many aspects of life. My understanding is that WWE is a violent sport and obviously, females are more susceptible to violence than males are. This is part of our genes. Females are the protecting kind because we give life and males are more the destructive species that take lives away. Just look at wars.

Of course, you will have the traditional exceptions everywhere and you will have the occasional female that is also destructive. But all in all, gender does affect preference.
