When rapping to a beat, do u copy the instruments or rap over them?

I've got a problem when rapping, i dont know what rythm im suppose to be following,
at the first few seconds of this you can see im just copying the trumpet thing, but then i sort of jus rap a completely different rythm over it, because i thought just copying the trumpet the whole way would be boring, is this the correct way to rap to the beat?
just place ur own rythm over the top?
kinda confused...

The instruments are there to provide you the rhythm that you use to rap/song

The instruments aren't just some pretty sounds that play in the background they serve a function and that function is to tell you what the rhythm is what the beat is you should be using

Also when you're actually starting a rap you let the beat go for a little bit before you actually start laying bars

This is so you can understand the beat while rapping

If you're not going to use the beat of the music then it's going to sound weird and it would just be better if you didn't use the music at all

Also if you're new to raping or really any form of music then when you sing you should start out with a song that has a very simple beat

Something that's easy to remember and keep track of

Which also means if you're using a beat you heard in a very famous song you're probably not going to get far because they usually have more complex beats than what a beginner can start with

And if you try to skip ahead you're going to completely Miss learning a whole bunch of the basics which will come bite you in the butt later on so you always start off small

Also when you try to freestyle you should always use a beat that you know by heart or at least use a really repetitive beat

If you can use music that you know by heart that doesn't have a super repetitive beat it will sound a lot more impressive but it's also a lot harder to do because you have to know went to speed up and went to slow down

And if you mess up on even a single word it can ruin the vibe of the entire rap

Then again while I write raps a lot I never actually rap myself or at least I never show anyone what it sounds like when I rap
