As a kid it was one of my favorites
My younger siblings gave it a chance. I could barely tolerate it. I found every single character unbearably annoying. As a small child, my jam was TailSpin or Darkwing Duck. Parts of those shows are cringe to me today, but still better than Arthur!
If we're staying on PBS to compare apples to apples, I enjoyed Square One, Ghost Writer, and Carmen Sandiego. Those shows were BA! Not so much Magic School Bus, though it tried.
Many feel that the gay wedding was Arthur's jump the shark. I found the hypocritical anti-bullying episode far more repulsive.
Arthur's jokes weren't even that mean! They were just dumb. The "victim" wasn't even that bothered! Yet, those self righteous girls that harassed him all episode to "avenge" her? Never once called out on their cruel hypocrisy! The War on Boys couldn't even leave a simple PBS cartoon alone! Worse: it taught kids that if you take offense to a joke directed at someone else with no malicious intent, it somehow justifies being a deliberate asshole - just so long as a straight male is on the receiving end!
I do remember my youngest biological sister getting mad at me for pointing out the inconsistencies in the show's morals. Because Heaven forbid a show she likes be revealed to have serious flaws!
How she turned out in life further sours my memory of Arthur. But not as much as my view of MTV. She got into those pregnant teen garbage shows, and lost her soul. I tried to warn her too! Today, she sees I was right about basically everything. But is too proud to ever admit it. She has turned down numerous opportunities to reconcile with the family. Especially me! Too full of herself!
So yeah... that's why I have a tainted lens of the history of Arthur, and can't recommend it to anyone.

Yeah, the guy who wrote them came to my school when I was maybe in first or second grade, he lived in the area. I want to say it was Marc Brown? Pretty sure that’s the guy’s name. It was cool, he had an easel and giant art pad that he showed us how he drew the characters on, and then I think I remember him having us create some crazy hybrid animal with suggestions from us kids for the different parts. The creature got a skunk’s tail if I recall correctly, haha.
Yes. I used to come home after school and turn the tv straight on because it would always come on at 3.
It’s actually rlly nostalgic while I think of it.
I used to make myself a snack and just sit and do my homework and watch it.
Growing up my siblings and I weren't allowed to watch tv, so we would watch it in secret when our parents were away for a couple of hours. Arthur was one of my favorites. 😊

Marc Brown who was the author used to dress up as an aardvark and read the story at our local library. He lives in the next town.

It’s one of the TV shows that constantly played in the hospital when I was a little kid so now I just associate it with that, so no 🥲

I found them cringe to be honest but yeah they are really good child books.
