Read manga then watch anime. Or watch anime then read manga. Both are fine longs if you read the manga then shit on the anime for how bad it is compared.
That's the way I do it.
The biggest upset is Tokyo Ghoul for obvious reasons.
But a more subtle but one that's got under my nerve is Attack On Titan it acts like it's faithful but it's not and they said "This will be the final season" just to then say screw that let's prolong the ending everyone already knows just to make another season rather than just making a longer season.
Even Death Note which I highly class as one of the best Anime's made is still different with a big one for example been the ending.

If it's a live adaptation, then I'd read the manga/watch anime first. For example, I heard Battle Angel Alita was originally a manga, so I read it before watching the movie. It actually gave me more appreciation for how well they've adapted it ^^

Usually I prefer watching an anime instead of reading manga first, since I usually enjoy the story more that way. But if there's no hope for a season 2, or the adaptation is bad, then I'd swap to the manga. Sometimes I might get a little impatient and swap to the manga. I did that for Naruto; the fillers were pretty rough through Shippuuden haha

That being said I still read plenty of manga/manhwa either way 😇

It's typically that a magna is turned into a movie or tv show. It's like novels being turned into movies. Never heard of a magna/comic book/novel being based on a movie or tv show.
