Negative is the one that sits in the camera and reacts to the light coming in through the lense.

The colours are reversed, black is white, red is green, ... and vice versa.

With this negative you can create multiple photos or films. The negative first gets fixed, otherwise any more light will damage it. After that you can project the negative onto a new light sensitive surface, creating a negative from a negative, so the colours are back to normal.
