Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pavlichenko: was a Soviet sniper in the Red Army during World War II, who was credited with 309 confirmed kills, making her the most successful female sniper in recorded history. After she was injured in battle by a mortar shell, she was evacuated to Moscow. After she had recovered from her injuries she trained other Red Army snipers and was a public spokeswoman for the Red Army. In 1942, she toured the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. After the war ended in 1945, she was reassigned as a senior researcher for the Soviet Navy. She died of a stroke at the age of 58.
Natalya Kovshova: was a female Soviet sniper who fought in the Great Patriotic War. She had 167 confirmed kills. Natalya was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union. Sadly, her career was cut short on 14 August 1942, as Kovshova’s regiment engaged German troops near Sutoki-Byakov in Novogorod Oblast. After being pushed back and surrounded by German soldiers, both Kovshova and her spotter, Polivanova, fought bravely to the end. Just as capture seemed inevitable, the pair decided to detonate multiple grenades, killing themselves and several Germans in the process.
Mariya Polivanova: was a Soviet sniper, It is estimated that Polivanova and her partner Kovshova managed to kill over 300 Germans during their short military career.
Nina Pavlovna Petrova: was a Soviet sniper during the Winter War and World War II credited with 122 kills, making her one of the most successful female snipers in history.
Roza Georgiyevna Shanina: was a Soviet sniper during World War II who was credited with 59 kills. She became the first servicewoman of the 3rd Belorussian Front to receive the Order of Glory. Shanina was killed in action during the East Prussian Offensive while shielding the severely wounded commander of an artillery unit.
