He’s certainly allowed the craft to shape him, he embodies the role, often to extreme lengths, if required… I don’t think there are many actors that would do the stunts that he does, or even actually go up in F-18’s like in the new Top Gun and take on all that stress on the body… props to his supporting cast there too, that’s nuts lol.
…and that’s just it, he has his own planes and is a pilot anyway… Dude is hardcore, regardless of what you think of him. From that standpoint, he’s pretty inspiring, stares fear straight in the face and puts on a great performance at that. I’d say he’s pretty great.
Nope. Back in the '80s maybe, but then he stopped taking the challenging roles in proper movies, and started just doing a bunch of dumb Hollywood action blockbusters. He's good at what he does, but it's not real acting, any more than what someone like Vin Diesel does. You can't really put him in the same league as Tom Hanks, for example.
And yes, James Corden is complete twat.
No, I don't think he's the greats actor. I don't really think James Cordon is a great judge of that. But he is like top 30.
To be fair, Corden works in the industry and he’s met dozens of actors, possibly hundreds. His work as a talk show host requires him to be familiar with entertainers’ current projects and to some extent the fuller breadth of their work. To that extent he’s more qualified than most.
James Cordon is not a great actor though and doesn't chose the best projects that benefit him talent-wise. He is though a great talk show host so maybe if Tom Cruise was a talk show host it would be more valid. Talking about current projects doesn't really reflect the quality of the final release.

It's possible. I mean you think about it he's been making at least one quality movie every year since the 80s. Only other actor I can think of in that category is Brad Pitt.
yes he believes in scientology though
Greatest? I do not think so - although I cannot think of someone fitting "the greatest" as of this writing.
One of the greatest? Yes, absolutely. Tom's dedication to work is fascinating.
Biggest, probably after Top Gun: Maverick. Greatest? That, to me, is different, and should bring "bigger than life" actors and actresses throughout film history into the debate.
I'll say this.
My wife hates him but loves his work.
Me, meh.
hell no. i mean he is a good actor for sure. but "the greatest" is a pretty high bar that he doesn't reach in my opinion.
He is a bit cocky but I still like him, most people don’t like him
He's never impressed me much as an actor, or as a human being.
No. The guy is a B movie hack.
Hahaha!
