Have you ever watched a movie on TV to find out scenes were cut or shortened?

I'm currently watching Matilda on CMT, and they cut out a few scenes, including the part where her dad puts sawdust in car transmissions. Why do they cut scenes like that? is it due to commercials or is something like that really even offensive?

There are several reasons: for time, for legal purposes (you see games cut down all the time for that reason; famously, the Grand Theft Auto series has be edited every few years when the music rights run out), or to remove content that would raise the rating beyond what the TV is willing to show- if it's just cutting out a topless scene, that's easier than reediting to remove entire plots.

yeah, i watched the usa version of vikings which had a lot of the european nude scenes cut
