Are there any violinist, or pianists (students or otherwise) in the GAG crowd?

I am involved with Piano, and violin and currently taking a great course in Music Theory. Like to hear from any of you equally enthused musicians and how you are progressing, are you playing with "forth finger" or playing open strings? Like to hear from you.

I played the piano a little but never mastered it or even got any good

My little cousin can listen to a song and learn it in an hr from just listening

Lets face it, I think it takes a special talent to be a good musician. I have a difficult time with both piano and the violin. Getting used to left hand/right hand coordination is not easy, and I am practicing different kinds of 'scales' to develop that kind of coordination, and that in itself is not easy. I have played some 'simple tunes" requiring that kind of coordination, and at times can play through one and other times, not.
The violin in also, VERY difficult, probably the most difficult string instrument to play. I have to lay the instrument down and walk away at times because of the frustration in playing correctly.

Don't ya just hate that? When in HS, I could do the same on the Accordion, (play by ear) but of course, that is not an effective way to learn music. Piano is very difficult to. Why don't you start again? You seem like a person that would be a dedicated musician! You are at a good age to begin, you seem 'settled', mature, and are physically able. Give it a shot!

I bought a keyboard to practice on after a lesson. Has 5-6 versions, Organ, vibe etc. How long have you played?

About 25 years now.

I wish but I can't read notes.

you should learn, it is very interesting, and teaches you a lot about music and what it takes to play an instrument.
