I haven't played it, but I've heard some good things; it apparently was pretty popular. The second game (which I also haven't played) is apparently extremely controversial, though.
I think I'll like the series but I'm scared for Joel's death... if they're going to do it like the game, then I'm going to be disappointed.
If it was as good as "war of the worlds" I'll like it. I like post apocalyptic movies and shows.
