How many books do you read in a month?

One of my goals for 2023 is to read more. I used to buy and read books every month a few years ago but ended up losing that habit and I’m trying to bring it back.

It varies wildly. A book like War and Peace is obviously going to take longer than something like Silas Marner. It's not just length, though; The Prophet is brief enough that it could be done in a few hours, but that's a book that needs some thinkin' on (no, not thinking on, thinkin' on); finishing that in less than a week is a sign that you're not done yet.

These days, since I'm stuck walking everywhere, I've been going through more audiobooks, so I'll take this moment to put in a word for Librivox, the audiobook branch of the Gutenberg project. They make public domain (and thus free and legal) recordings of public domain books, freely downloadable from their website. It's all done by volunteers, so the quality's kind of hit-and-miss, but you can't beat the price! If you ever wanted to go through some great work of literature, it's a fantastic tool.

I don't read nearly as much as I used to. Instead of picking up a book, I pick up my guitar now. I don't read a book a month, but I do a lot of research on topics I want to learn about.

Playing guitar is a great hobby too.
