Roald Dahl’s books are about to be ''WOKED''?

Here are just some of the words scrubbed from Roald Dahl’s books:

“Fat,” “ugly,” “crazy” and even “female” — these are some of the words that have been controversially scrubbed from Roald Dahl’s famed children’s books by so-called sensitivity experts. Plus! hundreds of changes to books like “Matilda,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “James and the Giant Peach.”

So not even 1960's literature is safe from this? What is next?

In “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the description of gluttonous boy Augustus Gloop has been changed from “enormously fat” to just “enormous.”

In “The Twits” book, the Mrs Twit character is no longer called “ugly and beastly” – but rather just “beastly.”

The “oh how ugly they were” sentence in “The BFG,” which described the not-so-friendly giants, has also been scrubbed.

A description of the Mrs Jenkins character in “The Witches” has seen the word crazy removed. In older versions, Dahl had written “Mrs Jenkins will go crazy” but it has since changed to “Mrs Jenkins will be furious.”

No filter nor grammer nor respect from my side, why are people such butt hurt now days?

Don't they have a life beside fucking some shit up that is so unnecessary?

I think these books are literature classics and i wouldn't change a single word, what do you think?

doesn't make much of a difference to me. You can always find old copies sold elsewhere. I kept a collection of my fave books that i’d read to my kid someday but none are by Roald Dahl anyways. I just like a few of the film adaptations based on his books (which are different from the books anyways).

There will always be difference between the books and the movies, same thing goes for the old copies like you explained. But the now days state of mind is absurd and they forcing people to change too. That is not the future

Yeah, I don't get it. I guess he was an anti-semite. I had no idea. But making modifications to his books doesn't make him less of an anti-semite. If folks can't separate his views from his books, they should not read his books. Just ban the books on the basis of anti-semitism. But don't change them.

But I would add one caveat. Are the books, the property of the family? Because if they are, the family can do whatever they want with the books.

The family of children's book author Roald Dahl has issued a belated apology for his history of anti-Semitism.

"The Dahl family and the Roald Dahl Story Company deeply apologise for the lasting and understandable hurt caused by some of Roald Dahl's statements," read the comment on the official Dahl website.

The apology comes three decades after the British author's death in 1990. Over his nearly 50-year career, Dahl wrote such classic children's books as Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, and The BFG.

He also made some anti-Semitic comments.

In one example, in 1983 Dahl reportedly told Britain's New Statesman magazine that "there is a trait in the Jewish character that does provoke animosity. ... Even a stinker like Hitler didn't just pick on them for no reason."

His estate should file a lawsuit against the publisher or else find a new publisher that will print the stories in their original form.
