Born in 1897, died in 1980.
In the 1920s, some of her early plays were shut down on the grounds of obscenity. But the publicity launched her Hollywood career. She became an icon. By 1936 she is said to have been one of the highest paid people in the United States.

Here are clips from some of the most memorable lines from her movies. She wrote all of them herself. Isn't her persona great?

Would have been fun to meet her, just to talk even. Quite a personality, and to write "risquee" lines like that, at that time... she was creative! Fascinating to view the woman now as an adult... to see the behavior and alluring of women play. Women so know how to play their bodies, to play men. As a kid, I wouldn't have understood the woman's viewpoint.

For some reason, her demeanor is not for me, like it's too "new york strong" or reminds me of a relative. not sure. Very confident woman though.

Wow. I never saw that film. I'll have to try to find it.
All I can say is, "Good for her!" I agree with what the people in the clip said about her.
Other actresses couldn't pull it off at her age, but she did.
