The irony of the saying "History repeats itself" is exactly what is happening and is exactly what the study of history is supposed to prevent. We've reentered a stage of historical sacrilege or book burning. We are toppling statues, removing historical education and so on because of how 'offensive' it is. History is meant to be offensive and difficult, it's to teach us the good and the bad. But today we are writing out the bad and setting up not our generation but those after us to repeat the wrongs of our history because of their educational ignorance.
