My wrongly pronounced word was "misled".

Instead of a short "i", I would pronounce it with a long "i", with the "s" sounded as a "z". Something like this: Mize-l'd.

I don't recall ever pronouncing it that way out loud, but when reading the word "misled", that's how it sounded in my head.

I WAS good in school, and I believe that I have a very good vocabulary at my disposal. That one somehow slipped through the cracks.

The presence of the "e", I believe, is what misled (Look at that, I managed to work the offending word into my response) me to my incorrect pronunciation. I considered misled to be the past tense of the non-word "misle", which I considered to be a "word" to describe some sort of trickery.

Mize-l'd sounded pretty apropos to me in regard to the meaning of the word, when taken in context. It sounds evilly tricky to me, I guess. Lol.

An example: "George mize-l'd Dave into thinking something that wasn't true."

Sheesh.

I discovered my error many years ago. What a shock that was to my self-image as an educated human being.

I've mentioned it to a few people. No one yet that I've mentioned it to has been able to see how I could have come up with that pronunciation.

Sheesh again.

It doesn't haunt me as you've suggested, but yeah, that's my mispronounced word.

So, I've told on myself. No shame, just fun.

There was a street in my town named Xemeno. Everyone pronounced it Ex-e'-meno or Eg-ze'-meno.

I went to a girls house one time and saw a letter on a table. It was addressed to someone named Xemeno. She said it was her brother. I said "Your brother's name is Exemeno?"
In a mildly disgusted tone, she said it is pronounced Hee-mey'-no. I had no idea. But I felt like a real idiot.

Also when I was young, I ordered a beef au jus sandwich from a menu and pronounced it au juice. When I learned that it is pronounced more like oh ju (əʊ ˈʒu), I was embarrassed.

Sternocleidomastoidico... i was talking to a trauma surgeon about the differences in response methodology (my country vs his) to severe thoracic trauma. I kept lapsing into the English pronunciation of the "EI" in the middle instead of the Spanish version. Every time I said it I saw him wince and I KNEW coming out it was wrong but it just WOULD not come out the Spanish vowels. The rest of them I had fine. Those two... nope.

I don''t know of any that I still pronounce wrong but I'm nearly CONSTANTLY (ESPECIALLY THESE DAYS!!) picking out things other say wrong, even though they're grown adults!!
Earlier today I heard some guy pronounce, "Navajo" as, "na-VAH-ho" and another guy pronounce, "Schwarzenegger" as, "Squartzenegger".
