Do you research the music you listen to?

How do you come across music and artists you like? Subsequently, do you research music/artists/lyrics or are you uninterested when it comes to that?

There once was a time when i downloaded every single album of music as long as the genre just barely met my musical taste.

Now i listen to the same bands i discovered back than with only a handfull of new additions.

Back than i was also much more surrounded by friends with the same or similiar musical taste. And also listened to much more music, now i listen more audiobooks.

Spotify and other algorithm usually only recommend music others listen to, but is usually not my taste. Spotify even fails to show me new album releases even when have been listening for hours to the same bands.

The new magic playlist is okay, at least it does add some music of the same genres to the list.

I like to research artists that I like to see where they came from and what other artists inspired their music. Not all the time but when I’m really into an artist.

I am always having discussions about music with people online, as well as watching music discussions on YouTube. There is always new music to digest. I have a pile of over 20 CDs and 7 vinyls sitting right next to me that I am slowly working my way through at the moment.

Then there is Bandcamp, which is a goldmine for discovering new bands.
